5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely illustrations accompany an important message, September 30, 2006
This review is from: Can You Say Peace? (Hardcover)
My almost 2-year old is very fond of Karen Katz's artwork. We have several of her lift-the-flap books, which are really fun for my daughter and we always enjoy interacting with Karen Katz's "kids". Can You Say Peace offers the same fun, eye-catching artwork that makes Katz's books colorful and unique, but also offers the opporunity to talk about peace on a very basic level with even the littlest kids. I love to hear my daughter imitate me as I say the word "peace" in the various languages in the book and she enjoys the pictures, the words, and the simple story. The last page of the book shows all of the kids from the story together on a 2-page spread and my daughter loves to match each child up with his/her word for peace. Lovely illustrations, lovely message. This is one of our current favorites, and as a mom, I so appreciate the simply presented yet important message!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unites Children in a Profound Way, August 3, 2008

This review is from: Can You Say Peace? (Hardcover)
What could be more important for children and families to understand than the simple desire which unites us all-- our need for peace-filled communities.
Karen Katz does a lovely job of highlighting our uniquely varied cultural differences, like language, while pulling us together through our common goal for PEACE! This book is a must have for any child growing up on planet Earth.
We have been sharing this story with our children for the past year and both my kids, aged 2 and 3, will now speak out for "peace" in each language while we read! KURTUKU!

Wonderful book. We had originally checked it out from the library and my little one got so attached to it that we had to buy one. She's learned all the different ways to say 'peace' and loves talking about the people in the pictures and what they're doing. Great way to teach little ones about the world and the people we share it with.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of my 2y old boy's favorite, July 13, 2011
This review is from: Can You Say Peace? (Hardcover)
We got this book from the library, and my kids absolutely loves it. He repeats the word peace in the different languages. We have a map in his playing area, and we can no longer read this book anywhere BUT in front of the map. He points to where the country is and repeats the word peace in the language of the country.
Great way to show the kids how different countries have different languages (cultures) but that in the end, we all are people with the same needs.

Another one of my favorite stories! A wonder story about children all around the world wishing for peace, a great way to introduce global concepts to young children as well as the benefits of working together promoting a peaceful world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for teaching peace to our future & for World Peace Day 9/21, May 22, 2009
This review is from: Can You Say Peace? (Hardcover)
This is a great book for teaching your child our future about peace and how to say it in many different languages. Did you know that September 21 is World Peace Day? And one person can help create and keep peace, we have the power to make the world.

This book would be World Peace Day - September 21 and is a good book for learning about other cultures and how children are all the same. We all smile and is understood in every country and language. We all wish and hope for peace. Karen Katz draws adorable multicultural children and this book can be used for young children to even 1st grade.

The word "Peace" for all by children from India, America, Japan, Australia, Mexico, Iran, Russia, China, Ghana, Bolivia and also included is a map of the world on the last page peace is also said in Danish, Arabic, Germany, Greek, Hungarian, Icelandic, Hebrew, Italian, Polish, Tibetan, and Vietnam. Each word has pronunciation which is very nice so you too can say peace in many different languages!

I bought this book for my preschool. The kids just love it! Every year the school digs it out to read to the children leading up to UN day. It is such a beautiful book.
