4.0 out of 5 stars nicely surprised, December 15, 2005

mom of 2 (Rochester, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Can You See What I See?: The Night Before Christmas: Picture Puzzles to Search and Solve (Hardcover)
I bought this book through the Scholastic books sale at school. I would never have picked it out, but my son wanted it. It's one of those "Where's Waldo"-type books, with a Christmas theme. The actual Night Before Christmas poem is featured in the front of the book, with phrases from the poem on each 2-page spread.

Each spread has a list of items to search for in the photographs. The items are sometimes obvious and sometimes ingeniously hidden (in plain sight, often).

Both my kids, 5-1/2 and 3-1/2, loved this book! I was surprised at how focused they were on finding the items, and asked for it again and again.

The photos are heavy with shadows in spots, making it harder to find the items, but their young eyes picked out items I never saw!

I did a turnaround on these books, going so far as to order another in the series for them this Christmas. My older child was very adept at this; my younger child found it a little harder, but with encouragement, stayed with it.

I'd recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars another great I spy book, July 13, 2006
This review is from: Can You See What I See?: The Night Before Christmas: Picture Puzzles to Search and Solve (Hardcover)
I bought this book for my kids ages six and seven. Good mix of tough to find and easy to find. If you are thinking of giving this as a gift I think it would be good for ages five and up.

5.0 out of 5 stars See for Yourself!, January 2, 2007

Can You See What I See? The Night Before Christmas, using The Night Before Christmas theme, is a seek and find it book similar to the 'I Spy Christmas: A Book of Picture Riddles' book. We bought one each for our granchildren so they could more easily and peacefully look for things together rather than trying to jockey the book to get the best viewing angle for themselves. This is another great low key way to spend some time together. It's a fun Christmas seek and find book. We like it and they enjoy it! I think I see a winner! ~ Mrs. B.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun for kids and adults, December 4, 2007
This review is from: Can You See What I See?: The Night Before Christmas: Picture Puzzles to Search and Solve (Hardcover)
We bought this for our three-year old daughter last year and she found it challenging. But at four she loves it. She insists we go through a few pages every night. I love how excited she gets when she finds something. My husband and I sit down and find items with her making for good family time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommend, January 9, 2007

Approprately intriguing and challenging while this book is also in season and fun. I recommend it highly due to the invitation to interact with a young person while "reading" it and see it as one more way to stimulate initiative, observation, and awareness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Maybe even better than I Spy, January 2, 2009
This review is from: Can You See What I See?: The Night Before Christmas: Picture Puzzles to Search and Solve (Hardcover)
This is a book made by the photographer from the I Spy series, Walter Wick. I *LOVE LOVE LOVE* I Spy books, and we have quite a few in our family. This is the first Can You See What I See? book we have tried, and I'm almost tempted to say I liked it better. We have spent quite a few hours in this book, and the photographs are in some way "cuter" -- more whimsical than I Spy.

Get a couple and see for yourself!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Art - Fun For Kids, January 13, 2008

This review is from: Can You See What I See?: The Night Before Christmas: Picture Puzzles to Search and Solve (Hardcover)
Walter Wick books are a favorite of my 5-year old, and this one is a favorite of mine. The photos are absolutely beautiful and full of Christmas spirit. Although kids love the repetition of finding the same things over and over in hidden picture books, adults can get tired of it fast enough. But the photos in this book hold your attention like a coffee-table art book, making it a pleasure to find five Santas in the Gingerbread house for the umpteenth time.

I have the entire series of "Can You See What I See?" and my son at 4 1/2 really enjoys these. I bought his first book when he was about three. It has helped his visual skills so much that he can find some of the objects faster than I can.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Tradition, March 9, 2006
This review is from: Can You See What I See?: The Night Before Christmas: Picture Puzzles to Search and Solve (Hardcover)
My husband has taken great delight since our son was born, 30 years ago, in reading his copy of "The Night Before Christmas" to him. Our son now wants to be the one to read this book to his daughter every year. My husband and I found this book while shopping one day and he thought Jessie might like it. That was an understatement. She's two years old and absolutely loves the book. She loves it so much, I couldn't bear to pack it away til next year. She only wants "grandaddy sonny" to read it to her and runs to get it every night before bed, and before naps. She never seems to tire of it and gets better and better at spotting the items. She has her favorite pages, and I even noticed that every page has something on it that relates to another. It's like a surprise every time she reads it! I would like to find others in this series, they're definitely books for life, and books to keep a tradition going forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps giving, December 12, 2010
This review is from: Can You See What I See?: The Night Before Christmas: Picture Puzzles to Search and Solve (Hardcover)
I bought this book two years ago. I pack it away with my Christmas decorations. Last night, when the grandchildren were over to decorate the tree, my 6 year old, 17 year old grandaughters, and one of my daughters, were, all three, engrossed in this book. They were laughing and pointing, and enteracting. Even though we have all looked and found all the items for the past two years, it still seems so new, and no one can remember where the items are. This is definitely a book for ALL ages! I know this book will continue to provide years and hours of fun in the future.
