I heard and read on IGN that this controller, unlike other xbox 360 wireless controllers, converts to a wired controller when plugged in via included play and charge kit. I can't get it to work however, and now I'm thinking it may not have that functionality. So is there a way to do this or was it just a mistake?

I accidentally wrote "wireless" controller in the topic name. can't change it now

The play and charge kit should have come with a rechargable battery that you put on the back of your controller. When your battery starts to die you plug the cable into your console and it charges the battery.
I am not sure if it turns into a wired controller for connectivity at this point or if its still wireless and just charging.

Could you clarify why you want it to be a wired controller?
If your wanting to hook it to your PC with that play and charge kit I do not believe that works.
You need a wired version or a wireless version with this dongle: Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows
