Can you place the camera in a tripod?

No... Even if you can, it won't be much of a use since this model does not have a timer. The only other Fujifilm Instax that has a timer is the newest model as of now (1/2013), which is the 50s. If it helps, the 7s can stand on its own on a flat surface.

No. You can get a bracket at the hardware store that has a place to a threaded screw and then attach the camera to the bracket and the bracket to the tripod. Rube Goldberg, but it should work!
