Another great Neko album!, October 14, 2006
This review is from: Canadian Amp (Audio CD)
I really love the sound of this album! Some of the songs were new to me. With Neko's voice behind them - now that I have heard them - I'd have to say that there are a few songs on it that I just can't live without! I absolutely love 'Knock Loud', 'Make your Bed the River young Girl' and 'Poor Ellen Smith'. Oh my God can this gal sing, do gospel and her bluegrass songs always bring me to tears. I wholeheartedly recommend this.

I've Said It Before..., June 11, 2007
This review is from: Canadian Amp (Audio CD)
I've said it all before, I'm always amazed by her consistently great CDs, and how often they end up in the player. Great voice, great songs, and if you're a player, she will have you grabbing for your guitar to play along.

Awesome!, January 15, 2007
This review is from: Canadian Amp (Audio CD)
I picked up this CD at one of Neko's shows, and it's become one of my favorites. Speaking of which "Favorite," a concert staple, is recorded here for the first time. I believe that it's the first song that Neko ever wrote, and it's a definite keeper. But for me, the highlight of the album is the Hank Williams song "Alone and Foresaken." There's a heavy rainfall in the background that reminds me of the final scene in the movie "Unforgiven." The whole experience is incredibly moving.
Note that this CD is more of an EP than an LP. It's got only eight tracks on it.

Meet Neko...your new Lady Pilot. :), September 18, 2005

wow. how many cover songs has Neko Case recorded? all her proper albums seem to include a handfull of tasty cover choices and now here's this little stop gap ep of some more (plus a few originals). i picked up my copy of this cd at one of her many live shows that i have been lucky enough to witness; and although this cd isn't as good as her live show, it's still a nice little addition to her very impressive discography. Neil Young and Hank Williams are covered here as well as a few more obscure choices and each cut shines in a very special Neko kind of way. this is the first appearance of the song "Favorite" which would later appear (different versions) on a Bloodshot compilation and "the Tigers Have Spoken" live album. all of Neko's albums are priceless and wonderful and certainly worthy of your time and your attention, but this little mini collection of songs holds a special intimate place in a fan's heart.

Good, but not the best...., January 31, 2009
This review is from: Canadian Amp (Audio CD)
I adore Neko Case, my favorite artist by far. That said, this album, while essential, is lacking. For one, it does not create a cohesive whole like her full length albums do. In other words, where Blacklisted and Fox Confessor work well all the way through, this album does not. However, there are many Neko songs that you must have off this album: Knock Loud, Make Your Bed, and Favorite are songs that any Neko fan can't do without....
