Book Description

August 1, 2001
The Cancer Breakthrough You've Never Heard Of provides readers with facts and information that supports new evidence gathered from hundreds of physicians who utilized conservative treatment techniques with thousands of cancer patients diagnosed with breast cancer, cancer of the colon and prostrate, cervical cancer, cancer of the rectum and melanomas and sarcomas. The astounding results demonstrated recurrence, recovery and remission rates that were no worse, and in an overwhelming number of many cases better, than radical cancer treatment.

"Most of the information found in this book is available nowhere else in the lay media!"

Even though this information is available to all physicians, many cancer specialists are reluctant to accept new ideas about the treatment of cancer and continue to convince patients that they should accept radical surgical procedures. Surgeons in major medical centers are the leading proponents of radical surgery, as they maintain their political, financial, and decision-making influence on the medical community.

Dr. Evans encourages all patients diagnosed with cancer to seek a second opinion, with that second opinion obtained from doctors who subscribe to conservative treatment theories.

About the Author

Dr. Richard A. Evans

Since 1978 Richard A. Evans, M.D. has been treating cancer patients. He is a board certified surgical oncologist and founder of the Texas Cancer Center, a non-profit foundation and medical facility located in Houston, Texas, which specializes in the conservative treatment of cancer.

Dr. Evans received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Rice University in Houston, and his Doctor of Medicine and Master of Science (physiology and immunology) degrees from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He pursued speciality training in general surgery at the University of California School of Medicine, San Francisco and at Stanford University School of Medicine in Palo Alto. Dr. Evans completed his general surgery training at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston. This included training at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and a one year fellowship in surgical oncology working under Dr. John S. Stehlin, Jr., the second surgeon in the United States to advocate lumpectomy for early breast cancer.

Dr. Evans researched the world wide experience with breast sparing surgery and helped Dr. Stehlin write his first paper on this controversial subject. The following year Dr. Evans made the surprising observation that cancer, which recurred locally following limited surgery did not seem to spread to other parts of the body. Using his knowledge of immunology Dr. Evans developed a theory to explain his observation and the great success found with limited surgical treatment, which was to become the Cancer Breakthrough You've Never Heard of. His theory and ideas have never been successfully refuted.

Dr. Evans is an outspoken proponent of conservative surgery in the treatment of cancer. He advocates less surgery and less radiation therapy for many patients. He argues that this approach has been successfully used by recognized specialists both here and abroad. It achieves survival rates equal to those of more aggressive treatment and causes less functional and cosmetic damage. Dr. Evans says that his conservative approach is safe and effective for most, if not all, solid tumors. His ideas have been endorsed by dozens of surgeons, oncologists, scientists and immunologists.

This is Dr. Evan's second book. 'Making the Right Choice: Treatment Options in Cancer Surgery,' was published in 1995. Dr. Evans has also published over fifty articles and letters in leading medical and surgical journals. His ideas have never been refuted.

5.0 out of 5 stars Influences on decision treatments are all surveyed, November 8, 2001
For a hundred years surgeons have believed every last cancer cell must be removed to cure the disease, yet scientific research may point to other ways of curing cancer. The Cancer Breakthrough You've Never Heard Of makes a case for conservative surgery and treatments, explaining terms for lay readers and explaining second opinions from advocates of limited surgery. Influences on decision treatments are all surveyed.
