In keeping with the stated aims of this symposium series, the latest concepts for therapeutic strategies and possible treatment development were discussed. Various aspects of gene therapy were covered in three sessions, reflecting its growing importance in cancer therapy. The fourth session reviewed the development of new anticancer drugs, providing up-to-date information on topotecan and taxol, among others. Each session ended with a discussion, therefore it was fitting that the symposium closed with a panel discussion on gene therapy in the 21st century. This volume will serve not only as a reference source but also a stimulus for future research.
