Book Description

0781722691 978-0781722698 June 15, 2001 Third

Thoroughly revised and updated, this book presents a comprehensive, detailed description of the properties and clinical use of anticancer drugs. It provides the latest information on all currently available drugs and biologic agents--their mechanisms of action, interactions with other agents, toxicities, side effects, and mechanisms of resistance. Particular emphasis is placed on the rationale for the use of drugs in specific schedules and combinations, and guidelines are provided for dose adjustment in particular situations. This edition includes new chapters on pharmacology of CNS agents; cancer vaccines; inhibitors of tumor angiogenesis; bisphotphonates; and strategies for drug discovery.

A Brandon-Hill recommended title.

Editorial Reviews

Review

New England Journal of Medicine, Volume 18, Issue 355 -- "The editors have taken on the Herculean task of melding chemotherapy and biologic therapy, with an emphasis on clinical relevance. To a great degree, they have accomplished their goal. The chapters are up to date, considering the rapid changes in the field. There is extensive use of illustrations and tables, and summary tables in each chapter reinforce the central themes. The discussion of antibody therapy provides an excellent overview of the current state of functional mechanisms. This textbook will continue to be a resource for clinical oncologists, and it remains one of the essential readings for medical oncologists in training. The editors and contributors should be complimented on the results of their labors, which improve on their previous exceptional efforts." --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars very detailed, July 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is a great, in-depth look at chemotherapy and the pharma involved with each drug. It has a little bit of the molecular targeted therapies, but was written just as these were coming on the market. It is far to detailed for someone just looking for general information but great for practicing oncologists looking for MOAs.

3.0 out of 5 stars Kindle version has deficiencies, June 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I would love to give this Kindle title more stars. Here's what needs to be fixed

1. I cannot access the Table of Contents from either my Kindle or Kindle for Mac Application.
2. If you go to the index, topics have no corresponding links / page numbers.

Because of these deficiencies, this title is not as useful to my practice as it could be.

Publisher, please let me know when this title is updated.

Thanks
