Editorial Reviews

The new generation of Swedish metal rises! With influences ranging from Hypocrisy over Dimmu Borgir to Arch Enemy, Zonaria have forged a misanthropic mix of brutal riffs, melodic harmonies, maniacal drumming and ominous synth lines that is sure to please metal heads worldwide. Their stunning sophomore effort and Century Media debut 'The Cancer Empire' was produced by Fredrik Nordstr"m (Dimmu Borgir, In Flames, At The Gates) at Studio Fredman and mastered by Peter In De Betou at Tailor Maid. Century Media. 2008.

5.0 out of 5 stars Empire Day, February 15, 2010
This review is from: Cancer Empire (Audio CD)
I had never heard of this band before the name popped up in a music review for a certain other Swedish metal band. I decided I would give it a listen anyway, and after most of one song, decided this would be a good purchase.

The album did not disappoint. Melodic death metal as a genre may be overpopulated with Swedish bands, but Zonaria is unlike most of them.

The music is relentlessly heavy, the vocals are death metal through and through, and the guitar riffs are very catchy. It is easy to get hooked on these guys. Unlike most other bands from the genre, these guys know what they are doing. Everything from the production to the cover art is first-rate.

The Cancer Empire comes as a highly recommended album. It will not disappoint. I'll give it 4.6/5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, May 22, 2009

Alex is absolutely right. I really liked "Infamy and the Breed," but had no idea "The Cancer Empire" was going to blow me away like it did. It's fast, it's mean, it's heavy - not all maniacal drumming and riffs but some really good slow, sludgy parts that augment the overall product. The lead singer's voice, as well, is its own weapon, adding a very distinctive ingredient to the overall mix. This band might remind you of others, but repeated listens to the album will reveal that the band is playing their own variation of hard, heavy, death metal. This is an excellent album!

Absolutely stunning in every regard. I usually hate this genre of metal but for some darn reason I just cant stop listening to this band. This band is extremely melodic which might be why I love it so much. Just listen for yourselfs. There needs to be more reviews for this unrecognized legend in the making.
