The authors review novel preclinical models that facilitate analyzing chemopreventive agencts' efficacy and mechanisms of gene-nutrient interaction. They also provide current information on recent clinical trials underway studying chemopreventive regimens in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
While the book does not attempt to cover all developments emerging in this field, it does provide a review of: varieties of nutrients and pharmaceutical compounds with tumor-inhibitory properties; current strategies, including preclinical genetic models, for studying chemopreventive agents; recent studies of cyclooxygenase-2 and tumor inhibition; calcium and vitamin D in cancer prevention; an update on breast cancer prevention; and updates from Europe and Asia on chemoprevention studies currently under way.
