The best Soda Album,
By
This review is from: Cancion Animal (Audio CD)
Soda Stereo is quite posibly the best Spanish Rock band that ever existed and this is, in my opinion, their best album. All songs but one made hit singles in my home country and they stayed in lists for over two years when combined. I even remember that at one time 6 of the 10 most played songs in radio stations came from this record. To this day, 12 years later, these songs play anywhere where there's people from Latin America and you see people singing along and jumping around. It is that good. One of those records that you always remember and cherish, not only for the music, which is exquisite, but for the great memories it brings back.

Others have said it better: this record is outstanding. I am not into Latin Rock. If anything I am into Rock from the late 60s, 70s, and early 80s: The Who, Rick Wakeman, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, etc. (plus the unclassifiable Frank Zappa) What I like about Soda Stereo, and this album in particular, is that it is rich and subtle at the same time - blending traditional Rock sounds with original variations. It is unfortunate that Gustavo Cerati's creative days are most likely over: he was hit by a stroke right after a concert and has been in a come for months now.

Must have for any rock aficionado - Hispanic or not!,

This album is full of hard rocking riffs, and memorable melodies. It is probably the band's best album, and for good reason.
The opening track is in 7/4 tempo, which will have you addicted to the beat, plus the guitar riff is to die for. The lead singer is a real guitar magician - the guitar work alone is phenomenal, and hard to believe this guy can sing on top of it all. This has to be a top 100 album in anyone's rock collection!

The pinnacle album from the whole Soda Stereo's career.,

Without any doubt, this is definitely the most retro-sound influenced project from Latin America's Soda Stereo which, by the date it was launched (1990) till the day today, has became their best career-wide album available out there.
Sound colour swings between Beatle's mono recordings to Luis Alberto Spinetta's acoustics, over a simple rock band trio setup which resulted on a true raw rock texture. If you're a spanish spoken pop/rock music follower, this one's a must. If you're not, then you'd rather get ready to become one soon right after listening this masterpiece - newcomers won't be disappointed almost for sure. The pinnacle album from the pinnacle band throughout the whole latin american / spanish spoken rock market. A+++

Let the sound touch you,

This was the first album I listened to while I was in South America. Forget the Beatles and Stones. These three guys have a sound as fine as any we ever heard in the north. If like me the words made no sense, let the melodic rhythms drag you to another place. Listen close to ' un millon de anos ' and before you can catch your breath ' de misica ligera ' has you in a trance. Soda Stereo left us with many great songs.....this is the one all others were measured by.

Rulers of Rock en Español,
By
This review is from: Cancion Animal (Audio CD)
The other reviewers have pretty much said it all: signed and delivered. This production by extinct Argentinian super-band Soda Stereo, marks the peak of their creativity. Their work can almost be defined as pre-Cancion Animal and post-Cancion Animal. With some the band's most solid works, such as "El Septimo Dia" (the Seventh Day), "Un Millon de Años Luz" (A million lightyears), the track that gave the album its title, "De Música Ligera" (Made of Light Music) and "Hombre al Agua" (Man Overboard), this production is as solid as any Rock en Español act can aspire for, but also it marks a musical landmark that should serve as a reference for Rock music at large.By blending styles gradually from Ska, Punk Rock and a sound that resembled The Police in Spanish in their first years, the band rised up to the ocasion during the years when music in English was not well regarded in Argentina (after the war in the Falkland Islands). Later on, they took on a particular-yet-ever-evolving style that would only belong to them, as the best Rock act in Latin America, during most of the eighties and the first part of the nineties, something that not even Mana or Cafe Tacuba can come remotely close to. If you want to get into Soda deeper, get this album, get Signos, and get "El Ultimo Concierto" (A and B). You won't regret it ever.

By
This review is from: Cancion Animal (Audio CD)

I agree 100% with all the good reviews of the CD. The best in my opinion.
You simply enjoy all the songs. There is not a bad song. Is like "Hysteria" from Def Leppard or "Machine head" from Deep Purple there is not a bad song! |
