5.0 out of 5 stars Essential
Heroes were one of the best rock bands ever. This collection does do justice. Most of their best you will find on this 2 disc collection. 3.0 out of 5 stars Derivative
The guitarrist is derivative from johny marr, from the smiths, and the lead singer is derivative from morrison (and a little bit from morrisey).
Lyrics are sometimes a little bit pretentious, not much variation from song to song... the formula sticks with that 80's new wave only with a differente language.

"Mar Adentro", "Agosto", "Despertar", "Entre 2 tierras" and "La Carta" are some of my all time faves. Their sound is a cross between Iron Maiden and The doors. This has some great remixes, and all the live stuff is of high quality as well. I reccomend this strongly if you are even remotely into rock en español.

5.0 out of 5 stars canciones '84-'96, February 11, 2002

Great stuff. It's in Spanish but it's not Spanish music: it's
pure rock and roll. With a strong Celtic influence, you can
hear U2 and Big Country, Los Heroes also incorporates the
Byrds, the Doors and INXS. Not to be missed by serious
rock music lovers. Forget the MTV basura out there today,
there are people in the world who haven't forgotten how
to make great rock and roll, Los Heroes are such folk.

5.0 out of 5 stars UNA JOYA MUSICAL (CANCIONES PARA TODA LA VIDA), January 1, 2005

PARA EL QUE CONOCE A HEROES NO ES EXTRAÑO ENTENDER PORQUE SE LES ADORA TANTO. SIN EMBARGO LOS QUE NO CONOCEN A HEROES SE PIERDEN DE UNA DE LAS MARAVILLOSAS BANDAS QUE CONTRIBUYEN A QUE EL GENERO DEL ROCK SEA EL MAS VENDIDO, VALORADO, Y RESPETADO. SI CONOCES A PINK FLOYD, ZEPPELIN, U2, Y OTROS DE ESOS GRANDES, PUEDES COMENZAR A ENTENDER DE QUE SE TRATA HEROES: UNA JOYA MUSICAL, O SEA, CANCIONES PAR TODA LA VIDA.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fundacion 2003 - Heroes Del Silencio, January 18, 2003
By
This review is from: Canciones 84-96 (Audio CD)

5.0 out of 5 stars las mejores canciones en dos discos, May 7, 2001
By
This review is from: Canciones 84-96 (Audio CD)

This editorial album set "Canciones" is simply the best. its about some of their best songs edited, mixed, and remastered. From their begining to their end, this set incude the songs of the best, they sing pure mastery in poetry living "Entre Dos Tierras" making them the best rock band ever in the latin world. I recommend this album to all spanish rock listeners all the "rockeros & rockeras" this is a never again must have in your "golden collection". Its a masterpiece, "Para siempre Heroes"

4.0 out of 5 stars Imperfect compilation for one of the greatest rock in spanish bands, March 30, 2007

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Canciones 84-96 (Audio CD)
There is no doubt that Heroes del Silencio is one of the best bands in the short history of Rock in Spanish, probably only second to Soda Stereo. I have a problem with this compilation, altough it does have its wealth of great songs, they decided to throw in a lot of live songs, which is a mistake, that's why there are live albums, but they fell on this trap too. Second, the songs are out of chronological order which is forgivable but it does no let you appreciate the growth or progression of a band through the years. The biggest problem I have with this compilation is what they did with the songs from their first album "El Mar No Cesa - 1988" (The Sea Doesn't Stop), they remixed all these songs drowning all the synthesizers, and Enrique Bunbury re-recorded all the vocals, which shows that the band is embarrased of its 80s sound. I love this album and its sound, it's only my second favorite after "El Espiritu del Vino", it's a shame that they couldn't keep it as it was recorded originally. Heroes de Silencio only recorded 4 albums and they are all excellent, if you have the cash I would recomend you to start with their second album "Senderos de Traicion - 1990" (Paths of Treason) and/or their third album "El Espiritu Del Vino - 1993" (The Spirit of Wine), if you love them buy the other two. I still have my 4 cassette tapes, I bought this compilation with hope of not having to upgrade to CDs but it somewhat let me down, still if you are the kind who are into compilations this is a good way to discover a one of the greatest Rock in Spanish Bands. I've heard rumours that they are getting back together, hopefully they're true.
Lastly about the review of that "eclectic" guy, he's obviously obsessed with Morrissey and The Smiths, so probably he compares everything with them, I know everyone has the right to write an opinion, but if you don't know about what you're writing about, don't make a fool out of yourself. Heroes del Silencio is a totally different band than the Smiths, Juan Valdivia (Guitar) has a different style than Johnny Marr and Enrique Bunbury sounds nothing like Morrissey.
