5.0 out of 5 stars Most in-depth, intelligent and helpful guide to Cancun
What a joy after reading some of the other guides to Cancun! This book covers almost everything, and is obviously written by someone with an intimate familiarity with the region. 1.0 out of 5 stars There has got to be better books out there
While the theory behind a personalize book by a frequent visitor to Conzumel and Cancun is appealing, this book falls short (at least in its Cancun portion). We recently visited Cancun and found this book to be significantly lacking in detail and many of their comments, concerning resturants and activities, we strongly disagreed with. Stick with a Fodor's book!

What a joy after reading some of the other guides to Cancun! This book covers almost everything, and is obviously written by someone with an intimate familiarity with the region. It offers helpful hints on each page, rather than just pointing out lists of places to visit (although it does this also). The Mexican to U.S. clothing size conversion chart is particularly helpful. The book dedicates 12 pages to shopping in Cancun, a topic restricted to 3/4 page in the other guidebook I purchased at the same time (and sent back). The coverage of places to stay, places to eat, and what to do is very objective and frank, unlike some of the guides which seem to be produced by the local chamber of commerce. As a lover of travel (and travel guides), I can't say enough about this one - it's as good a guide to a city as I have read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Guidebook!, October 7, 1999
By A Customer

I couldn't have asked for a more reliable guide to the hotels, restaurants, and sights in Cancun. The information helped make our vacation the best we've ever had -- and saved us money too. Next year, we're taking this book and trying Cozumel!

I used this book as a guide to Cancun and it was great. I would recommend this book, especially to everyone going to Cancun for the first time like me! It covers everything.

We had a wonderful vacation usiing this guide book. Unlike another one that starts with "F", the Alive guide is not full of upfront stuff that nobody reads. It gets right to the point in telling what hotels have to offer, the best places to eat (it arranges them by cuisine and gives sample dishes) and devotes many pages to shopping -- in the malls as well as downtown. We got some good bargains as a result. We'll go back again, maybe this time to Cozumel or some of the other places this guide has discovered.

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent reference for travellers to cancun, July 22, 1999
By
This review is from: Cancun & Cozumel Alive! (Alive Guides) (Paperback)
In my previous review of this publication, I may have been overly critical of the book because it did not include several locations which I had hoped to have found included but were not. Because I have traveled to Cancun before and have passed over areas which I did not find the time to visit, I was hoping to find the reviews of these locations in this book. A bit selfish on my part, and for this I apologize to the author(s) for making my remarks appear negative. It was purely unintentional. Most importantly, readers looking for an excellent reference regarding Cancun immediate area, I highly recommended you read this book. It's funny, factual and most of all will settle your jitters if you will be traveling to Cancun for the first time.

I still hope one day the author(s) will add some color photos. I know, keeping book prices competitive may be a factor.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book delivers what is promises, January 28, 2000

(From Planeta.com Journal) This is a recommended title, by the Conords whose Adventure Guide to the Yucatan is a favorite. Descriptions are lively and the info first-rate.

3.0 out of 5 stars informational, not geared for economical travelers, July 21, 1999
By
This review is from: Cancun & Cozumel Alive! (Alive Guides) (Paperback)
good humor style, not enough pictures. The authors skipped Akumal and environs. No mention of related sites like Chetumal and Merida. Not enough tips to help larger families save more money. Not enough lower end priced restaurants. The book is geared toward single travelers where money is not an object, or tour packages. Major disappointment: Akumal, Puerto Aventuras, Aventuras Akumal were all left out.
