My husband and I have traveled around the world relying on the accuracy and usability of the DK Eyewitness Travel series. Unfortunately, this book was a complete let down. Many of the Top 10 items appear on several lists, so you're only learning about a few key areas in the entire region. The biggest frustration we had was that there were no detailed maps included...not even one for Cancun. There was a large regional map, but it had little to no detail, so was utterly useless if you wanted to explore any of the Top 10 suggestions. Forget the convenience of size...get a full-size book so it can be useful.

This is a great "cliff notes" summary version of a travel guide to the Yucatan area of Mexico. If you are the type that loves to pour over the details and minutia in most travel books, then perhaps this book isn't for you. However, if you tend to use travel books to mostly determine the highlights, the "don't miss" type attractions, activities and sites, then this book is just right.

My husband has been less interested in Mexico and was pushing for Hawaii (yawn..) I'm not much of a "lay on the beach and do nothing" traveler, and that is pretty much all Hawaii has going on (in my opinion - yes, we've been there, and the Yucatan, other areas of Mexico, Costa Rica, the Caribbean and other Central American destinations as well, so I do have something to compare Hawaii against...) The last time we came to the Yucatan we were in Playa Del Carmen area and he did enjoy it, but he wasn't interested in going back there again. I purchased this book to convince him that there was still much to see and do in the area outside of Playa Del Carmen and Cozumel. The beauty is that he can have his lazy beach days and I can check out ancient ruins - a great combination for us.

After reviewing this book (and my highlights within the book) he became excited about the Yucatan again and we now have a trip planned for Isla Mujeres (Yay!) instead of Hawaii (double-yay!)

The amount of detail was just enough - the best beaches, the "feel" of the different areas, great ancient sites, great cenotes, other attractions, etc. If you're trying to decide if you would like a trip to this area, this book is ideal. It is also great for those who want the highlights on what is best in the area and what shouldn't be missed. Additionally, it is small in size, so will be very easy to bring along on our trip (unlike most travel guide books that are huge and heavy) It's a great, handy little guide.

This is a great little book for those who like short, sweet, to-the-point highlights for an area. If you like a lot of detail, buy a full size guide.

I got this after reading a few other reviews. I could not put it down after I received it. I really like to research my travels before I go and the Top 10 lists are varied and detailed! Top ruins, top cenotes, top beaches to snorkel, top wildlife areas, etc. Top 10 by city is very handy. The vast majority of the book is where to go/what to do/what quieter activities are off the beaten path stuff/what not to miss. there are very few pages dedicated travel tips. I've been to MX, Cancun and Cozumel a couple dozen times so I know what to miss, avoid, how to exchange $$. This guide gives you more of the top things to do and see in a very compact format. If you are looking for travel tips, I'd suggest Lonely Planet or Fodors.
Great pictures in the entire guide. the maps are okay. I did order the Adverturer Map pack from the MapChick. Her maps work wonderfully with the Top 10 guide.
