The Kind of Candi That's Good For You!,
By Starr S. (Portland, Maine) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Candi Staton (Audio CD)
Thirty years after having been only available on vinyl, Wounded Bird Records releases her final, eponymous Warner Brothers album from 1980 on CD! Although this one didn't boast the huge hits of the previous three albums ("Chance," "House of Love" and "Young Hearts Run Free"),it DID FEATURE some good material including the first single, "Looking For Love," which was a nice midtempo jam that leaned more toward Dance/Pop stylings with its Rock guitar solo and sexy lyrics. Bear in mind that come 1980, the Disco trend was fading and more Funk-infused R&B as well as Quiet Storm formats were presenting. And speaking of Quiet Storm, you cannot ignore this album's gorgeous "Halfway to Heaven." Check it out and celebrate in knowing that her entire Warner Bros. repertoire is now completely available on CD!

This Album is From 1980, NOT Her Songs From 1969, '71, and '73,
By childfree by choice "childfree by choice" (Richmond, VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Candi Staton (Audio CD)
An earlier reviewer stated that the "Candi Staton" album is comprised of songs from Candi's Staton's three pre-Disco Southern Soul albums [1969, '71, `73] recorded at FAME studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. This is not true. I bought this album when it was first released back in 1980. It was released on the Warner Bros. label in Burbank, California, not the FAME studios label in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, her former label. I am so happy that this album has finally been released on CD and on MP3 download. Candi Staton is one of my favorite singers, and this is one of my favorite albums, especially her remake of "The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game", "It's Real", "Betcha I'm Gonna Get Ya", "Halfway to Heaven", and "Living Inside Me". I still have the original album from 1980, but I wanted the songs on CD or MP3 download as well. Candi Staton is a phenomenal southern soul singer, and all of her songs are sung from the heart. Although this album doesn't contain any stand out hits, such as "Victim", "Chance", and "When You Wake Up Tomorrow", it is still a strong album from a gifted soul singer.

It was different from the older records, but I still enjoyed it.I had never heard it before.
A friend recommened it and I trust his musical judgement. I usually buy smooth jazz.
