Review
Newer version delves deeply into history and significance of holiday. For that reason alone, book should find audience in both Jewish and non-Jewish families. It could be used as valuable tool in teaching school children of other religious backgrounds about heritage of their Jewish classmates. Such an exchange sorely needed in public schools where teaching about- not of- religion is needed. --Jeanne Pugh, Rel. News Ed., ret/ St Petersburg Times
Candle Talk follows Kindl as he climbs into box of candles enroute to a Hanukkah celebration. He learns significance of candle lighting ceremonies that mark each night of the eight day festival, including the separate meanings attached to each of the candles that are added successively to the Menorah, the traditiona nine-branch candelabra.
Bonus- actual prayers said during ceremonies in both Hebrew and English, as well as words and music of original Hanukkah song, "The Eight Lights of Hanukkah." --St Petersburg Times newspaper
The language and dialogue, as with other Kindl adventures, is delightful. It should be a treat in easy, fun reading for youngsters in the elementary grades. --Xenia Phane, Ph.D., NYU
