I have no idea why this happens BUT this pot is a neverending source of black residue. When first received, I cleaned it thoroughly so remove the black residue from naufacturing. Kept cleaning it because the residue kept coming off on the towel. Once the residue was gone, there was more to be had during use. It never ends.

I think it is because it is made of aluminum. I discontinued using it and got a stainless steel pot. No more residue issues.

If you are using it for industrial purposes and aesthetics are not important, this would be a great buy.
