Candombe? Grupo del Cuareim???!!! Maybe even Uruguay means nothing to you! In fact Candombe, is an African delivered rhythm and main part of uruguayan way of life. In my opinion, Uruguay and candombe are the best kept secrets of South America. Cuareim, or "Barrio Sur" the southern side of Montevideo. Grupo del Cuareim brings you the sound and flavours of the music that african slaves brought almost two centuries ago and slowly came to it's actual shape in this neibourhood of the city.

Even if this is the first recording of the group many of their components have been playing around the world for more than 30 years. Keyboard composer and arranger Hugo Fattoruso, he has worked with musicians like Ron Carter, Milton Nascimento, Hermeto Pascoal, Chico Buarque among others. In this exciting CD you'll find him at his acoustic piano supported by a "cuerda of tamboriles", the three drums that are used to play candombe, and occasionally other intruments like bass and guitars. You'll also find a superb vocal section, featuring singer and composer Ruben Rada and other nine vocalists singing their heart out in theese classical candombe repertoire. But no words, at least not mine, can describe what can be heard and what is hidden in this superb album. All I can do is tell you is to ask your cd retailer to get you a copy of it and get yourself into a new musical experience with the hypest of rythms!
