Candombe What?,

This review is from: Candombe Jazz Tour (Audio CD)
Great music. Got this on a visit to Uruguay. I asked my host what local music to get and he recommended Ruben Rada. I had never heard of candombe but I walked into a music store and picked up the newest album I could find and I have been listening to it for 3 months straight.
The rhyhms are fun and I would recommend this all day long. The songs on the cd also keep growing on you the more you listen. Try "Candombe Para Gardel" and "Ni Un Dia Mas" for a start. I am very impressed. Although i do not do many concerts this artist would definitely inspire me to go to his if he was ever in the states. I plan on buying more CDs of his Oh yeah even if your Spanish is not that great (like mine) you will still be drawn to it. Trust me.

This album is the latest CD to be relased by Ruben Rada. However, this CD is a copilation of the best songs performed in his tour to Argentina in mid-2004. El negro, along with his musicians will make you enjoy every beat of this CD. This is the first CD live composed by Ruben Rada that has ever been released in the United States via EMI Argentina. You won't regret to purchase this CD if you are a Rada fan!

Rada 30 years later still strong,

I first heard (and loved) Rada, in the 70's with the incredible group OPA (featuring Rada, the Fattoruso brothers and Ringo Thielman).
His energy, charisma, and apparently ernest involvement in the music and lyrics, was captivating. Like the best of the great Salsa singers, merged with the a superior jazz singer. Sadly he remains, one of the truly underrated (and unrecognized) talents, of the music world. Here we find Rada more than 30 years later, still in top form, still breathing not just life, but fire into the music. If you haven't been to the land of candombe, that Rada literally pioneered, and you enjoy latin music at all, jump in, you will feel right at home. If you have, but are wary because of some of the recent projects, this is Rada live, focused and on fire. Go for it. |
