Kids enjoy the story!,

I've read this book with my third graders for the past several years. They love it. They enjoy having a candy corn contest of their own while reading the book.

My third grade teacher read us this book during the fall holidays. At the age of 23, I still remember the title and how it made me like candy corn. I think it's a great story. I'm going to buy this book for my nephew.

I read this book when I was in the third grade and I loved it!!! I probably read the book 20 times during my childhood. I am now 24, and still remember the yummy candy corn contest described in this book. :)

This book was very entertaining and kept you guessing two thirds through the book how many candy corn there were. Alot is going on in the classroom and tends to jump from classwork to a sleepover - but interestingly my daughter was able to follow right along. This book is about friendship and typical child thoughts. I enjoyed this book as well as my daughter. Good read.

I discovered this series in my classroom two years ago and after reading Pickle Puss aloud I've decided to invest in the series. I've started from the first book reading it aloud to my third graders during breakfast and they LOVE it!! It's humorous, VERY relatable and great for teaching reading skills as you move through the story. I truly love these stories and all the characters within. I can't wait until we get to the next book...

Throughout the book, the main character and other characters spend a lot of energy making fun of a boy in their class who wets the bed and subsequently smells bad. This goes on and on, with words spoken both directly to the poor boy (Matthew) and behind his back. It gets to the point where the main character actually detests Matthew simply because of this problem. In the end, the main character softens, but it is not enough to alleviate all of the damage that has been done throughout the book. I cannot fathom why an author would think this would be good reading for first through third graders. We need to give our kids positive role models, and certainly this book does not deliver.

This book was a required read in my child's classroom so I purchased it, he did not like the book, he did not find it interesting, he said it was a boring read.
I didn't find anything wrong with it, but I guess it just depends on your child's interest.

it's almost thanksgiving and richard best can't stop thinking about ms.rooney's candy corn contest. whoever can guess the exact number of yellow-and-orange candies in the jar on ms.rooney's desk gets to keep them all. the only problem is that richard has to read a page in a library book for each guess. smelly matthew who sets in front of richard knows neither of them will win. we're the worst readers in the class he says. but richard won't give up. he can already taste those candy corns. and before he knows it he has. three fat juicy ones. what will ms.rooney do when she finds out?.

This book doesn't make any sense. It is so, so, so b-o-r-i-n-g. The book is not well written, and the sentences are way too short. I woudn't recommand this book to anyone.

A Thanksgiving Story,

This review is from: The Candy Corn Contest (The Kids of the Polk Street School) (Paperback)
This book was enjoyable but kind of gross. Too graphic about Matthew's smell. You'd think his folks would know how bad he smelled and do somehting. I would have called CPS and reported it as child neglect. If a kid is that young and smells bad then that is poor personal hygeine and that is the parent's fault.
