5.0 out of 5 stars All I can say is WOW.
I just picked this up from Amazon.com after nearly disintegrating my Fairground Attraction CD from repeated play. All I can say is WOW...what an amazing recording. Eddi Reader clearly has one of the most remarkable voices I've ever heard...every song is like a lover's embrace, every phrase like a soft breeze that wraps you in its gentle touch. Whew...

Buy it now...

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay, but not quite there....
I've been an Eddie Reader fan since her Fairground Attraction days. I have to admit, although there are a few delights here (title track included) it's a little vauge. I would go for the previous CD, which is cunningly called "Eddie Reader" which has the fantastic tracks "Right Place Now" and "Patience of Angels". I would strongly...

I would strongly recommend you check out her offering on the Batman Forever OST, which is one of the best tracks on the CD, "Nobody Lives Without Love", which has an unusually dark flavour. And I think you'll find the title is Candy Floss, not Gloss!

Cheers

Gavin.

5.0 out of 5 stars Her voice is simply MAGIC, April 27, 1999

Eddi Reader is an excellent, if not the best singer in the world. Any song she sings, she turns it into an incredible experience. I can't think of no words to describe with justice, the way she makes every musical note a magical moment.

5.0 out of 5 stars A subtle masterpiece..., March 30, 2008
This review is from: Candyfloss And Medicine (Audio CD)
This is probably Eddi's best solo album!
But if you like 'loud', corny country stuff better avoid it.
It's intended for listeners with open ears to every detail and whisper.
The big-orchestra subtle touches are a huge plus!
My favorite tracks are ''Candyfloss'', ''Medicine'', ''Lazy Heart'' and ''Semi Precious''.
*** The original UK version had the amazing cover of ''Town Without Pity'' in it, which was the first single.
But later they pulled it off for the US market. Instead they added 3 B'sides from the UK singles of this album - ''If You Got A Minute, Baby'', ''Shall I Be Mother?'' and ''Sugar On The Pill''. Since Eddi's singles are very hard to find, it's great to get these 3 songs here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rolling along fab scottish music!, February 10, 1999

Eddie reader has a really fantastic voice for kick off, and the skew poetry of the words makes a great accompaniement. Coupled with an easy slack arrangement of instruments and you have one great stonking album.

1.0 out of 5 stars I Love Eddi, But this CD is Terrible, January 24, 2008

I am someone who loved Fairground Attraction, then about a year ago, rediscovered her with the Burns tribute CD and the classic "Peacetime." This explains why I then assumed that Eddi was always great, and all I had to do was to rebuy all the CD's in the interim to find similar greatness. If you are like me, please beware: because, incredibly, Eddi's solo CD's--at least the ones I've since purchased are surprisingly bad. Take this CD--not literally, you'll want to return it if you do. My gosh, it's dull. boring. I had mistakenly called "Miramama" her worst CD. Now, upon hearing this one, I'm not sure. Maybe this one is worse. In fact, I racked my brain trying to think of a worse solo CD by the lead singer of a great group, and was stumped...until I thought of "Looking Back With Love" by Mike Love of the Beach Boys. That is the one in which he is wearing the Los Angeles' Dodgers cap on the front, and one of the best songs is the reaggae verson of "Over and Over." (yes, the Dave Clark V song). Just pause a second and let that thought wash over you--Mike Love, the voice of 'she's real fine, my 409', singing a reagae version of "Over and Over." and that was one of the better songs. Worst? Well, the title song, "Looking Back with Love" is a retrospective history lesson--note the almost Greg-Kihn-worthy pun, about the 60's...(same voice) "and now we're lookin back with love..."

Trust me: I don't know where these folks came from who loved "Candyfloss and Medicine", but this CD is mediocre at best, without even one great song.

After reading the rave reviews of this album, I'm going to have to go back and give it another try. What I heard from several listens was pleasant, yes, but wholly unremarkable. But this is coming from someone who thought that Fairground Attraction was "nice".

4.0 out of 5 stars Oh, yes....., January 21, 2002
This review is from: Candyfloss And Medicine (Audio CD)
This CD should be played very loudly and very often while spreading musc over your naked body lying on the floor of a room full of candles. So I've heard. by the time track five arrives you feel yourself falling irresistibly in love. By track six you are standing on the table like 'Cyote Ugly', with your shirt off, swinging it wildly in the air. From then on, everything else is post-coital, but very pleasant. I am on my knees as instructed, Madam. Please have my babies, Eddi. I can't stand their noise anymore.
