5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Game, September 1, 2005

This game is very much like the original Candy Land game, only with durable plastic Dora characters as the pieces. The colors are the same as the original (unlike the Pooh game). The board is decorated very well with Dora characters and does not seem cluttered. I'm very glad our local Wal-Mart was out of the original Candy Land game and only had this one.

Oh how I loved the Candyland board game, many years ago I had the original version and what fun it was for me as a child. When I saw this game at the local Toyrsrus store in the "Dora" version, I had to buy this for my son (21 months). These days in our house it's "all Dora, all the time" and given that was the theme of this game it really got my son interested and boy does he love it! My main reasons for getting him invloved in this game are I think it's a great "family" activity. I also am working on teaching my son patience, waiting your turn, colors, and being able to sit down and focus and let me tell you after the first game (he won:) that's exactly what he is begining to learn. By game two, my son had no problem sitting there, waiting his turn, choosing his card etc. (These are huge accomplishments for a toddler). But, what I love the most is seeing his sweet face light up when it's "his turn" and he especially loves to choose which character he is going to be.

The game comes with plastic figures of Dora, Diego (her cousin), Boots, and Backpack. Hubby and I wish it also came with "The Map" as a playing piece but he's tucked into Backpack - oh well. Yes, we know all the characters too well. At this point in my husband's career, he didn't imagine in his wildest dreams he'd be humming "I'm the map, I'm the map...I'm the Map" at work. But, when you don't get too much sleep and your house turns into "Dora's World", it's bound to happen.

This is a must have game for any Dora Fan, really great!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Much better than the Original, October 14, 2005
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars

I had purchased the original for my then 3 year old, but it didn't last long when two of the character pieces(the player pieces you move across the board) got wet and would not go into the base to hold them up. They are made of cardboard, and not resistance at all...plus they bend easily too. This one is exceptional, and the figurines are made of plastic, so no worries there. The characters are all on the board as well, (Tiko, Isa, Swipper, ect) and make the game slot more fun...the other canday, to me is boring. This one is worth any extra you have to pay and it's good for boys or girls!

5.0 out of 5 stars WE LOVE IT, December 1, 2006
This review is from: Candy Land - Dora The Explorer (Toy)
I bought this game for my 5 year old niece Celina last year for CHRISTMAS, we Love it. We played it over my sisters house with my niece, her then 8 year old brother Buddy and my 77 year old mom. Grandma Lu even loves it and she even loves the Characters. Candy Land has always been a family favorite for all of us. Even my nephew likes it and he not a DORA fan. We had such fun playing it racing to Abuelas house for the fiesta. We played it four times in one day, and its great having the instructions in English as well as Spanish. I wish that they would come out with a Bob the Builder or THOMAS candy Land game for boys which would be great. This is such a cute game and it's well worth the money. Its one of the BEST GAMES EVER and even ADULTS as well as KIDS would have A BLAST PLAYING IT. THIS GAMES ROCKS.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun for all, January 18, 2007

I have always heard of Candy Land, but as a child, I never played that game. I did decide that it was time for my kids to learn about playig board games. They loved it. I got it for my three year old daughter (A big Dora Fan) and all she cared about at first was the big Dora picture on the box. I set up the game, and didn't have to tell her anything except: pick a card and move the amount of color spots that you are told. She understood right away. This is the perfect game to teach kids the main concept of playing board games. All of my other children love it (her twin brother and my 5 year old son). They all decide when they want to play, and each have their favorite game piece (the boys alternate between Diego and Boots). I can't help but play this game with them too. I highly recommend this game for children. As long as your child knows the main colors and can couunt to five, he/she can play this game. My only regret is not getting it sooner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic game with a cute twist!, October 22, 2005

I remember playing Candy Land as a child, with the classic characters and how I loved it. Now, my daughter adores the same game with a really sweet Dora theme. The game is still the same basic idea with new game pieces, cards and board...and it is stil a GREAT game for pre-schoolers as there is no reading and the game process is simple.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game for your Dora fan., December 4, 2008
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Candy Land - Dora The Explorer (Toy)
My daughter was given this game about two years ago. At first, I contemplated taking it back because we already owned original Candyland, but my daughter convinced me that the Dora version would be much more fun. I caved in and we kept the Dora Candyland.
The basic concept of the Dora version is exactly the same as your standard original Candyland, but the theme is changed. In this version we are trying to get to the Fiesta first. Instead of getting stuck on a gumdrop for the lose a turn spaces Swiper is the reason for losing a turn. The overall feel and look of this gameboard is cheerful and friendly. My oldest daughter was always a little scared of the Lord Licorice character on the original Candyland. The Grumpy Old Troll is the only grumpy looking character on the board, and that's how he is on the show. His presence alone makes playing this game enjoyable for me.
The game pices for this version are very nice. Dora, Boots, Diego and Backpack are all decked out and ready to go to the fiesta.
My youngest daughter is now the one who plays with this game and she prefers it to the original version and so do her little friends, it's a game they always ask to play when we host playdates.
My only gripe about this version is there is no story attached to the game. With original Candyland you get the story about Candyland and some background on all the characters you will meet along the way. I would have liked to have a story related to the Dora version, but it's still a good game even without the story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Game for little Dora Fans!, October 17, 2007
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars

I just recieved this game in the mail today and played it with my daughter that is 3 1/2 years old, She loves Dora! She was very excited to play this game and it was hard to keep her from wanting to move the pieces in the wrong places. She wanted to play with all the characters but had to realize you can only use 2 of them when playing with just 2 people. She liked that at the end of the game Dora (or whomever you choose to play with) gets to go to a party at the end of the game. It is a fun game for little kids. I don't think this game is very educational for my daughter since she already knows all her colors. But, if it teaches patience, that might just help in the future. The figures that come with this game are pretty durable and can make nice little toys if your child became bored with the game.

I bought this game for my nephews, 6.5 and 3.5 years, and we all enjoyed it very much. You don't need to count, you don't lose a dice - the idea with the cards is fantastic and we have started to use them to study a foreign language: each one picks a card a announces the color and number (one or two squares) in a foreign language and it becomes educational as well as great fun.
Never boring!
