Responsibility, perseverance, and ingenuity are virtues that serve a young gingerbread boy well along a journey of self-discovery. Based on the Candy Land board game, this 55-minute animated adventure begins with a young gingerbread boy named Jib setting off toward the Candy Castle with an offering of special gingerbread icing to present to the King for the "Sweet Celebration" ceremony. At the Castle, King Kandy appoints his rather irresponsible daughter Princess Lolly to appear at the ceremony, stressing that she must bring her royal scepter to ensure the continued blossoming of everything sweet in Candy Land. Jib hurries along the colorful path to the Kingdom, meeting new friends Mr. Mint and Jolly along the way, while the sneaky Licorice Bites steal Princess Lolly's scepter to further Lord Licorice's evil plan to turn Candy Land into Licorice Land. A chance meeting between Jib and Princess Lolly leads the two to join forces against Lord Licorice, but can they possibly recover the scepter and make it to the Candy Castle in time for the celebration? Five original songs add musical fun to a fanciful adventure that offers a cute story to accompany a whole new generation's journey to Candy Land. (Ages 3 to 7) --Tami Horiuchi

Product Description

Jib, the youngest of all the gingerbread boys is about to go on the adventure of his young life... to bring Mama’s special gingerbread icing to Candy Castle for the Sweet Celebration, a festival that ushers in the sweet new candies of Spring. And all Jib has to do is stay on the Rainbow Path, follow his heart, and be on time. But on his way, Jib meets Mr. Mint in the Peppermint Forest and the most fun-loving fellow in all of Candy Land. Jib tries to stay on schedule, but Mr. Mint has other, much more fun ideas!

My four-year-old loves this DVD. It's very colorful, and the shallow story is simple enough for him to follow. Animation quality is mediocre, only slightly better than current Saturday morning fare (though the backgrounds are nice).

The worst feature is the introduction, which features over 10 minutes of commercials for other DVDs. You cannot use the MENU button to skip these advertisements! You have to fast-forward over them manually. THIS IS EXTREMELY ANNOYING. I've made a copy disc to eliminate this problem, but most users will have to sit through the obnoxious spam ads over and over again. BAD PUBLISHER. NO DONUT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cannot get enough June 7, 2005
Format:DVD
I got this movie for a long car trip. My 3 year old had never seen it and I thought she would be interested as I assumed the colors would be bright and characters cute. Oh My Goodness, she watched the movie 8 times in a row (9 total in one day). She will watch and laugh and acts as if it is the first time she has seen it. It was a sanity saver for us.

4.0 out of 5 stars sweetly entertaining for a 2 1/2 year old March 20, 2005

Format:DVD
I purchased this video for my 2 1/2 year old daughter. She is very into the music and tries to sing along and even mimic the movements that some of the characters are making. The plotline is simple enough for her to follow without her becoming disinterested. The colors are bright and vibrant and she really likes how "happy" everything looks. The ending scares her. she doesn't like it when people are being mean to each other. I had to explain to her what was going on. Overall the characters are funny and loveable.

If you are looking for a grade A movie quality film this is not it. This is a fun rainy day movie that is ok to an adult watching it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kids Think its Sweet January 24, 2006
Format:DVD
I bought this for my two year old daughter. She wants to watch it over and over. My five year old son also likes to watch it. I think it is attractive to kids because of the bright colors and catchy songs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for the under 5 crowd! April 24, 2006
Format:DVD
When I first got this, my girls (ages 4 and 1) LOVED it. It was always in the car's DVD player. The songs are cute, the animation is colorful and the characters are easy for kids to relate with. Now that my older daughter is 5 1/2 she is begining to outgrow it. She thinks it is "babyish" - but I notice she never objests when her sister picks it.

It has a good message, too. Responsibility and inner beauty. The main character (a little boy gingerbread) has to travel to the castle with his "special gift" for the great candy celebration. He encounters all of the well-known Candyland characters along the way and escapes from the evil Lord Licorice. He makes it to the castle only to find that the special gift is him! It is not complicated. There are no hidden jokes for Mom & Dad, no inuendo, nothing at all offensive. It is a very cute movie and if it gets your kids to play Candyland even more - GREAT!

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute September 14, 2005
Format:DVD
My kids enjoyed this because they'd seen it advertised in the previews in their other videos. It may be a little slow after a while for the little ones, as it was for my 2-year-old, but my 4-year-old likes it. She always wants us to play the board game after it's over. Not a classic by any means, but it's a cute movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Movie! April 26, 2005
A Kid's Review
Format:DVD
I thought this was an excellent movie. I'm in the process of buying it for my little sister. She also loved it. I thought the designs and graphics were very beautiful and creative. My favorite character is Queen Frostine. I have Candyland, the game and have played it for years. I had been waiting a long time for them to make a movie out of it. Two Thumbs Way Up!

I bought this after seeing it in the rental store. It looked too cute to pass up. I am always looking for movies that my 3yr. old son will like and that I feel is appropriate. Im tired of all the sarcasm and violence in most kids' movies. This one is pretty innocent, although Lord Licorice could be a little scary for some. I like the vivid colors and happy ending. The music is great too.
