5.0 out of 5 stars Makes you feel less alone
I feel so much better after having read this book. I am not alone in my obsession over candy. It's not often that a book makes me laugh out loud and call my friend to read her what I'm reading. If you end up liking this book, Candyfreak is a must read. Same story, but his obsession is for chocolate. Anybody who loves candy in an obsessive way will love and enjoy...

3.0 out of 5 stars A candy obsession
This was cute. Liftin's memoir of her life is centered around all things candy. Candy Corn, Jellybeans, Snickers, Junior Mints, Bottlecaps, Skittles, Circus Peanuts, Taffy, Twizzlers, Necco Wafers, and Starburst--all of these and more have played a prominent role in her life. She flashes back to her life beginning with Bubble Burgers on through to Meltaways. Each candy...

4.0 out of 5 stars The Truth Never Tasted So Sweet, July 11, 2004

Funny, sometimes wistful, and surprisingly thought-provoking. For Hilary and me it's candy; for others it's various substances that fortify and amuse. This well-written self-examination packs a much bigger message than you might expect.

I enjoyed reading it while killing a couple of half-pound bars of Cadbury Milk Chocolate.

5.0 out of 5 stars The book made me hungry.., August 9, 2009
This review is from: Candy and Me: A Girl's Tale of Life, Love, and Sugar (Paperback)
I purchased this book quite a while ago, and just recently sat down to read it. It is quite entertaining, and moving. I thought the author, Hilary, did a very good job writing about her obsession with candy. She wrote about the 'role' that various candy products played in her life. It brought back how candy played 'roles' in my own life. I could relate to her throughout the book. I am going to look up her website now.

3.0 out of 5 stars A candy obsession, March 28, 2009

This was cute. Liftin's memoir of her life is centered around all things candy. Candy Corn, Jellybeans, Snickers, Junior Mints, Bottlecaps, Skittles, Circus Peanuts, Taffy, Twizzlers, Necco Wafers, and Starburst--all of these and more have played a prominent role in her life. She flashes back to her life beginning with Bubble Burgers on through to Meltaways. Each candy reminds her of a specific time or event in her life. As she grows up and eventually falls in love, candy is slowly replaced by more important human interactions; but it never disappears. This girl is serious about her candy.

It was cute, but not terribly terrific. I'd give it 2 1/2 stars, sometimes rounded up to three. Maybe because I've never really been into a lot of sweets (Liftin's Halloween candy was gone the next day--mine was still lurking around at Easter), it didn't really "get" me. In fact, there were sometimes that I felt a little sick just reading about the amount of sugar she ingested. But it is a cute memoir, written in a unique way. Super-fast read.

4.0 out of 5 stars I Want Candy!!, August 2, 2007
This review is from: Candy and Me: A Girl's Tale of Life, Love, and Sugar (Paperback)
I just finished this book & I loved it! I'd give it 4.5 stars out of 5.

If you like candy, have ever liked candy, have a favorite candy - then you gotta read this book.

* Warning: Reading this book will give you urgent cravings for candy...I made myself sick from eating too many orange Circus Peanuts while reading it. :-D
