Book Description

Candy, Murder and Me is a sweet cozy mystery with recipes that's a dog lover’s delight.

When Cookie Berelli, dress designer for full figured women, discovers her private investigator dead in her salon, she calls on a few friends to get her out of trouble.

This cozy mystery with a dog includes a cute little dachshund she named Sigmund Freud because he's such a good listener. She has a bunch of crackpot ideas for how to catch the murderer, and Sigmund, the trustworthy dog he is, follows right along, sometimes even discovering a clue or two himself.

Everyone starts to look suspicious. For example, is Eugene Gemstone involved? After all, he is her number one fabric cutter at Florida Fashions, and he did start acting overemotional after he wore one of the dresses she designed into the ladies’ room at Chez Riso and got arrested. He's especially suspect now that he's disappeared with all of Cookie's candy stash. Then again, it could be that cute PI, Andy Shea, who shows up at the funeral of her dead PI, and makes her hear the love song from GONE WITH THE WIND in her head, or it could be just about anyone else on the planet.

Some of the other colorful characters include:

Yuri Yarutski, who owns a sports bar in the bad part of town and wants to go a few rounds with Cookie
The woman who lives in a tree (who in Florida can live without air conditioning?)
Bernadette Humphreys of Bernie's Tattoos who comes up with the weirdest body art.

Okay, yes, Cookie did find the body, in fact two of them, and so she has to clear herself, but does that mean the murderer has to go after her?

Included in this cozy mystery with recipes, are standbys from her Norwegian and Italian heritage such as Grandma Berelli’s Pralines (“Worth going to jail for”), Cookie’s Maple Candies (“So good they’re criminal”), Nana’s Kringlas (“To kill for”), Cookie's Chocolate Cover-Up Fudge ("Perfect for spying activities"), and Blood Red Spaghetti Sauce with Bad Boy Meatballs, among others, are available throughout the story to break up the mayhem.

Watch for Candy, Murder and Just Desserts, number two in the Cookie Berelli cozy mystery series.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Dear Reader,

Thanks for stopping by.

I got the idea for CANDY, MURDER and ME a long time ago. I woke up with a vision of a plus-size woman with gusto who designed clothes for women just like her. If you love dogs, wild women amateur detectives with whacky ideas about solving a murder, and great recipes, CANDY, MURDER and ME could be for you. Read the sample pages and see...

Thanks, and keep reading!

All My Best,

Carolyn Chambers Clark

P.S. Keep your eye on Amazon. com for the sequel to this book--CANDY, MURDER and JUST DESSERTS. It's coming soon!

4.0 out of 5 stars Humorous, entertaining and sweet October 19, 2010

Caution: be prepared to resist temptation as Cookie (should be named Candy) munches on chocolates as she muddles her way through solving two mysteries. And if you weaken, she includes her family recipes of those delectable-sounding treats.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly entertaining February 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
An entertaining whodunit tale ensues when Cookie Berelli, a full-figured dress designer and candy junkie, discovers her private investigator dead in her studio. As Cookie investigates, the reader is taken on an entertaining journey that eventually ends in a solution to the mystery with the added bonus of being privy to a number of the author's family recipes. The writing flows smoothly and the characters are engaging. The author's wit in places was a delight. Looking forward to the next in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crazy Fun Candy Coated November 18, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I don't think I have ever ate so much candy while reading a book before. Good thing it was after Halloween so I had a stash to raid on hand. Candy aside, I honestly had fun reading this book. It is fast paced and crazy. The book does contain some violence, (it IS a murder mystery), but nothing graphic. No sex scenes or bad language. We meet Cookie's family and I really loved the strong bond presented there. There are recipes scattered throughout the book. Overall I really enjoyed this book. It was fast paced, easy to read and a lot of crazy fun. A full review is available on my blog.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very awesome book cover March 27, 2015
Format:Kindle Edition
Sam T. Falcone (PI) had been murdered in Cookie Berelli (fashion designer, Sloan Technical Institute of Dress Design, narrator) at her Queendom clothing design studio.
Sergeant Denny Dennehy questioned her.
Cookie had actually just hired Sam. Her boss Alfred Al W. Kiekhofer had accused her of embezzlement.
Cookie was released for now & started her own investigation of the murder.

1st stop to talk with Rhonda Roddenberry (Sam’s former assistant).
Cookie & Rhonda rented another office from Mr. Swenson (manager) & started their own PI business.
Rhonda was investigating Cookie case & Cookie (Mafalda) Sam’s murder,
Al Kiekhofer, Xeldorf's Chemical Plant, Sheldon Weinstein (President Xeldorf's CP), Max Xeldorf & the EPA clues up.

Rose Falcone (widow) had been whacked also.
Will Cookie & Rhonda solve the murder mysteries?
What about the Xeldorf's Chemical Plant?
Norma (pg. 43; Norman), Igrabbed (pg. 94) Ipopped (pg. 149)

The crime mystery books I have read before the recipes were in the back. They also had pets. This was kind of neat & different. Raisins in UR meat-a-ballsas’, uh,

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.

A very awesome book cover, cool map, great font & writing style. A
very well written who-dun-it crime mystery book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. Recipes & pet lovers included.
