Candy's eclectic career track has taken her from pop and a pioneering fusion band to smooth jazz and funk.
With this one she reveals the inventive musicality that always has been at the foundation of those diverse elements.
Daughter of a jazz musician,she says "There are many different styles of music on the album. I just mixed them together. I hate purists who put music into boxes. I really think that is bad and I have always felt that way. This is the way that I grew up. I am the daughter of a jazz musician, but we would go to pop concerts, listen to ska, house and disco. It was all good to me. That is what I also want the audience to find out".
This disc, which numbers longtime partners Thomas Bank and Ulco Bed, keyboardist, bassist, and vocalist Chance Howard, includes some real swinging and driving music, as well as accessible jazz with well arranged horn work.
"I try to make instrumental songs that linger a little longer than people just liking to listen to them. A lot of instrumental songs are difficult to remember because they are not really songs, just cute little lines. I would rather have people remember my melody and the ideas behind the songs. I can always take the songs live and stretch them out or do whatever I want with them", she says.
And it is true.
The rhythms and the melodies please you, make you dance, yet they stick on your mind and soul, you will not forget them soon.
Highlights are "L.A. Citylights", "11:58", "La Cabana", "Soulsax", "Music = Love", and "Summertime".
All throughout the ear friendly disc, Candy's sax work is contemporary and energetic.
With "Candy Store", Candy delivers in great fashion a bunch of aural delicacies.

I will try to not rattle off with superlatives, adjectives, & word-a-...tives when describing this release; but I must say this album is awesome. I'm not sure if it's because I didn't expect much due to the fact that there have been so many lackluster albums released this year, that I was growing tired of the smooth jazz genre. Well, I won't be so harsh because musicians do grow, and their growth may be in a different direction than where my preferences reside. With that being said, me and Candy have a thing going on *winks @ Candy*, because the things I wanted she was able to deliver. This is not an on again off again relationship where you skip tracks, no...you play the whole thing from begining to end and float. I'm a habitual floater by the way. Bravo Candy...Bravo *winks*

Over time I've heard bits and pieces of this album and have downloaded some of the songs. However, as a general rule, if I hear 4 or 5 good songs from one album, I'll buy it. So I did and I have to say this is one of the best smooth jazz albums I own.

There are so many good songs on this CD that rather than go through them one by one, I'll just say there's only one song I don't like and it's #3, Music = Love. The voices on the song ruin it for me. Other than that one stinker, I love the other 11. This is also an album they play a lot on Music Choice Smooth Jazz which is on cable tv. So if you like Candy Dulfer, I feel this is her best CD so far.
