I've been a fan of Carlinhos Brown since even before Alfagamabetizado-- still his masterpiece IMHO--and I guess I'd buy pretty much anything he writes, performs, or produces. Saw this double CD in Spain this summer but I figured it would be easy to get in the states so I passed. It wasn't. Finally tracked it down through Amazon, though I had to wait a while. It wasn't worth the wait, with a couple of exceptions. Most of this album is "carnavalesque"--party beats, in other words, without much at all in the form of lyrical or musical depth. I guess the title "Candyall Beat" is truth in advertising. There are a couple of cool tracks though: Sambadream, Mariacaipirinha, and the remix of Bocarriba will get your Brazilian caipirinha party going wild. Other than that, this "experiment," I'm sorry to say, is pretty much a flop.

disc one of this two-disc set is carlinhos brown's "Symphony-For-A-New-World-Percussive-Dance Masterpiece". is it marvelous beyond words? i can't say enough about it... the black-disc of this two-disc set is basically a single percussive-beat theme with variations. i like it. it's on a "brasilian-house-music-type-tip" colored with the musings of brasil and carlos' candomble music. listen to this music. try to disallow your outside distractions and past perceptions. it's not euro. it's afro. you will hear what calrlinhos brown and dero have created. indulge yourself. when you hear this music i'm sure that most will agree that this is a masterwork of carlinhos'! A GREAT SYMPHONY FOR A NEW WORLD! this music is remarkable!

after disc one, what can follow? most, i guarantee, will seek a refreshing, cooling drink. acai? perhaps a caiparinha. well, as the "brown" in carlinhos brown's name is his own renaming of himself in a tribute to THE GODFATHER OF SOUL; the great black american founder and creator, Mr. James Brown, you can only expect the funk at it's most potent and primal. disc two begins and ends with the GREAT BRASILIAN FUNK FROM OUR WONDERFUL, NEW AND NOW BRASILIAN MASTER, SENHOR CARLINHOS BROWN! what a serving up! obrigado, carlos! you and i? relax. enjoy. tchau...
