The life of Govind Prasad sets an example of how hard work, determination and devotion to family brought one man from very humble beginnings to a distinguished life of service. When reading this book, one cannot help but think of the many blessings that we as Americans simply accept as part of everyday life. The story is written in a very personal tone that demonstrates a true sense of reality to every situation described, and also conveys a lighthearted sense of humor that will leave you chuckling at times.

Once in a while, you'll come across a story that gives you a perspective of the world that you never had before. From Cane Fields to Battlefields is a book that I would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone.

This book is a truly inspirational tale of an extremely modest man that lead a fascinating life. He took himself out of poverty, traveled the world, and never complained of the hardships he endured. I admired him before I read his book, and now have an even deeper respect for him. But you do not need to know him to be inspired by his story. It reminds us that we all can change our lot in life with hard work and determination. A pleasure to read.
