Product Description

12 oz - Pure Cane Syrup Louisiana When did we begin to walk away from such very simple ingredients? No more corn syrup - try pure cane syrup! Perfect for the holiday baking season and, of course, for pecan pie! About the Cane Syrup This syrup is made the old fashioned way in open kettles -- nothing extracted, nothing added. Just 100% goodness. As in days past, Steen's still harvests ripened cane at the sweetest state of maturity. The cane is then ground and the juice extracted. The sweet juice is then cooked to perfection in open kettles. When it's just the right clarity and consistency, it becomes Steen's 100% Pure Cane Syrup. About the Producer According to Steen's: "The average syrup makin' season extends from mid-October through Christmas. And today, as in the old days, when autumn is here and the tantalizing aroma fills the air, local residents know they will hear the old steam whistle at the syrup mill blowing. Knowing yet another year of history is being made at The C.S. Steen Syrup Mill. Comme delices du gourmet, il n'y a rien de meilleur." (For a gourmet delight, there's nothing better!)

I was born and raised in South Louisiana and have eaten Steens syrup all my life.

I ordered this expecting to get the usual size I buy from the grocery store, but this teeny thing showed up.
MarlaShane
I used this instead of corn syrup in a Bourbon pecan pie recipe and it was stunning!

When we visit Louisiana we buy this by the dozens. When we don't visit Louisiana, we order it online.
This is not like molasses in taste but it is like molasses in use. We use this to make gingerbread and it makes a better gingerbread than using molasses or dark corn syrup. We often use this to put on biscuits instead of using honey. When I make candied pecans I use this syrup. My husband prefers this over maple syrup for his pancakes.

It is very thick and the colder it is, the slower it moves. As I said, it doesn't taste like molasses but it does have a bit of the aftertaste the same. It is used in our house interchangably.

Enjoy.

I was born and raised in South Louisiana and have eaten Steens syrup all my life. It is like no other. A 1Qt. bottle at Walmart is between $4 and $5. Well worth the money.

I have a lot of family out in the Georgia and Flordia area and one of them even makes his own cane syrup. Someone recomended Steen's to me and I was skeptical at first because I thought I'd already had the best. Anyways I gave in and tryed it and was amazed by how good it really was. I love cane syrup and this is certainly some of the best I've had.

I love Steen's. I grew up on the Gulf Coast where there were several people who made sugar cane syrup at home and sold it throughout the neighborhood. Now it's difficult to find genuine sugar cane syrup in the grocery stores, even in the south. I was really happy when I found Steen's website and ordered their 4-pack. Steen's syrup is delicious. It was like being home again. Homemade biscuits and Steen's sugar cane syrup.... or homemade pancakes and Steen's. If you like sugar cane syrup you won't disappointed with this product. However, if you've never had pure sugar cane syrup, you may find the taste very strong and, for some, overwhelming. That's the nature of pure sugar cane syrup.

I love this syrup, and I can't find it locally. I have been happy to get it from Amazon associates. It's really good, and I first heard of it on Treme. Jeanette was using it as a glaze on something. A richer substitute for Maple Syrup.

We really like this syrup, in baked recipes, or just spread on crisp warm toast. It offers such good flavor without any risk of additives or preservatives. A glass of milk with some of this sweet syrup stirred in has been one of my favorite treats since I was child. My grandmother raised eleven healthy children on a Texas farm. They had few fancy foods, but this food was a staple used to making gingerbread, pecan pies, or just in the middle of a big warm buttermilk biscuit. This sweet treat brings me such lovely memories of a happy childhood vacation summers spent with many interesting cousins. Try it! You will really love it.

As a young boy, I remember my father using South Georgia cane syrup to sweeten his one cup of coffee in the morning because both coffee and sugar were rationed during WWII. This is just as good as what he had then, and I consider myself a connoisseur of cane syrup. The can is a bit awkward, so after opening, I transferred the syrup into a one-pint whiskey bottle for storage/use.
