My golden retrievers love it!,
By L. M. Southern "Golden Retriever Owner" (Milwaukee, WI United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Canine Genius - Leo Extra Treat Dispensing Dog Toy (Misc.)
I bought this toy for my golden retrievers after seeing it at a pet expo. All their meals are fed to them through treat toys and they thoroughly enjoy it. We have every toy imaginable with the exception of Kongs, which they've never seemed to like, so I was excited to see something new. One of my dogs is considerably smarter than (or just maybe more motivated than) the other and I have yet to find a toy that he isn't able to clear out in 10-15 minutes. The other one will give up if he can't figure it out. Both dogs are highly motivated to play with this toy. We have all the toys in the Busy Buddy line by Premiere Products, Everlasting Treat Ball, etc. along with several other brands. What I like about the Leo is that it's easy to fill (which is not the case with the green Everlasting treat ball). It will hold about a cup of dry food. When I am not home, I put a full-size dog biscuit inside...it won't fall out the mouth of the toy, and it holds my dogs interest as he tries to get it out through the criss-cross on the side of the toy. I have also spread peanut butter on the outside and inside of the criss-cross and they will work at it for quite some time. My dogs are not chewers, so that hasn't been an issue for me. This toy provides great mental and physical stimulation for my dogs. Now that I know both my dogs like the Leo, I am planning to purchase a few more of them as you can connect them, thereby increasing the difficulty. I purchased this toy for [..] plus tax, which is slightly higher than what it is listed on Amazon, but then I didn't have to pay for shipping. The Leo I purchased is for large dogs, but apparently, it comes in a mini-Leo as well for [...] at [...]. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wishes to enrich their dog mentally.

He ate it.,

I bought this for my Cavalier puppy, a small dog. He immediately started chewing on the narrow end. Within minutes (seconds?), he had made a good start of chewing it up and swallowing the small plastic pieces. It was a waste of money.

My Cardigan corgi Skip gives a demonstration of the Leo dog treat toy. As you can see, he thinks it's a pretty cool toy.

Good option, but doesn't entertain for long,

I think this is a great idea and might be better if you had additional pieces to fit together. We just have this piece and my dog is able to get the treats out in seconds, but he does enjoy it.

Keeps My Dog Busy!!,
This review is from: Canine Genius - Leo Extra Treat Dispensing Dog Toy (Misc.)
I give this a 5-star rating because it really does keep my dog busy. Its size is great for her big pit bull mouth and has held up to chewing. It should be noted that this is not a chew toy in the true sense of the term, as it is not tough like Kong, Orbee, etc. However, for it not being a chew toy, it does hold up pretty well. The previous reviewer complained that it is easy for the dog to get the treats out, but not the case for my dog. Sure, some treats are easier to get out than others, but I have tried a bunch and know which work the best for my dog. I tend to insert a mix of treats with some that are easy for her to get out and others that are more difficult, just to give the dog some variety. This toy has also comes in handy to distract the dog when I sit down to eat a meal. Sometimes I will insert bits of my meal (bland food safe for the dog) into her Leo, so that I eat without the dog begging at my feet! In the event your dog becomes bored with the toy, you can buy other Leo's to connect to it, which provides an even greater challenge. My only complaint is in terms of its price, which is on the high side.

Treats come out too easily,

This review is from: Canine Genius - Leo Extra Treat Dispensing Dog Toy (Misc.)
I like the size of this product, because unlike other treat dispensing toys it doesn't end up under the coffee table or couch. The material is very thick so would be good for strong chewers. Unfortunately, the treats are dispensed WAY too easily because there are no inner walls or compartments to randomize when the treats are dispensed.
For the same money or less, there are better products out there, namely the Amaze-a-Ball! |
