Product Description

Canine Genius Leo - Named in honor of genius Leonardo da Vinci, Leo marks a renaissance in dog toy design! The original connectable treat-release toy!The durable, hollow-core construction, open neck and two cross-cut holes allow Leo toys to be stuffed with treats. Great fun on its own or connect two, three, or more Leos to create customizable treat-release puzzles (treats can travel from toy to toy). Feed dinner from a Leo to slow down gulpers, and exercise your dogs mind by giving them a "hunting and foraging" challenge at mealtime. Leo is a great way to help obese dogs lose weight too - extending the duration of a meal can help them feel more satisfied with less food. For dogs 10-200lbs. 8"h x 4"w. Dishwasher safe and also great for fetch, tug-of-war, and water sports (they float too)! Made in the USA.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not recommended for chewers, April 30, 2010
By
This review is from: Canine Genius Leo Dog Toy - 8" Assorted (Misc.)
I really wanted to love the Leo. It's a hollow toy with an open neck and two cross-cut holes so you can stuff it with kibble or other treats. What's cool about it is that you can connect as many Leos as you want to form a long chain, and the food can travel from one Leo to the next. It also comes in some fun colors, which I liked.

Unfortunately I was not blown away by the toy. Here's why.

It's expensive. But $18 on a toy doesn't bother me if it's well constructed, durable and can keep my dog entertained for awhile. However, within one minute (I kid you not) of giving her two Leos, she damaged the necks. In one toy, she cracked the neck and in the other toy, she chomped off a piece of the neck, which I subsequently had to retrieve from her mouth. It didn't seem like a safe thing to ingest. So that was $30+ down the drain and we didn't even get to enjoy them for more than 60 seconds. What a waste of money.

I looked at the pamphlet that came with the toy and in bold letters it says "The Leo is a treat-release toy, not a chew toy." So I guess I'm the idiot for not reading the fine print.

I did read on the Canine Genius website that they sell a regular version (for medium-soft chewers) and an extra version (for medium+ chewers). However, this is not well marked at all - in fact I completely missed this on their packaging. So Canine Genius, if you're reading this, I suggest you do a better job with your messaging. It's contradictory (why would you have a version for medium-soft chewers and for another version for medium+ chewers if this is not a chew toy?) and unclear (a. you should do a better job in upleveling your messaging about this not being a chew toy and b. if you sell two different versions, you should show this on your packaging).

Given my experience, brief as it was, with this product, I cannot recommend this toy.

My Cardigan corgi Skip gives a demonstration of the Leo dog treat toy. As you can see, he thinks it's a pretty cool toy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for strong chewers, May 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Canine Genius Leo Dog Toy - 8" Assorted (Misc.)
My Basset/Weimaraner destroyed this way too easily. Then again, he destroys most toys easily. He is a strong chewer. Only the strongest kong's and tirebiter toys have stood up so far. The toy design is awesome and my dogs loved it. Had it lasted longer, I would give this toy a 5 star rating.
