Not recommended for chewers,

This review is from: Canine Genius Leo Dog Toy - 8" Assorted (Misc.)
I really wanted to love the Leo. It's a hollow toy with an open neck and two cross-cut holes so you can stuff it with kibble or other treats. What's cool about it is that you can connect as many Leos as you want to form a long chain, and the food can travel from one Leo to the next. It also comes in some fun colors, which I liked.
Unfortunately I was not blown away by the toy. Here's why. It's expensive. But $18 on a toy doesn't bother me if it's well constructed, durable and can keep my dog entertained for awhile. However, within one minute (I kid you not) of giving her two Leos, she damaged the necks. In one toy, she cracked the neck and in the other toy, she chomped off a piece of the neck, which I subsequently had to retrieve from her mouth. It didn't seem like a safe thing to ingest. So that was $30+ down the drain and we didn't even get to enjoy them for more than 60 seconds. What a waste of money. I looked at the pamphlet that came with the toy and in bold letters it says "The Leo is a treat-release toy, not a chew toy." So I guess I'm the idiot for not reading the fine print. I did read on the Canine Genius website that they sell a regular version (for medium-soft chewers) and an extra version (for medium+ chewers). However, this is not well marked at all - in fact I completely missed this on their packaging. So Canine Genius, if you're reading this, I suggest you do a better job with your messaging. It's contradictory (why would you have a version for medium-soft chewers and for another version for medium+ chewers if this is not a chew toy?) and unclear (a. you should do a better job in upleveling your messaging about this not being a chew toy and b. if you sell two different versions, you should show this on your packaging). Given my experience, brief as it was, with this product, I cannot recommend this toy.

My Cardigan corgi Skip gives a demonstration of the Leo dog treat toy. As you can see, he thinks it's a pretty cool toy.

My Basset/Weimaraner destroyed this way too easily. Then again, he destroys most toys easily. He is a strong chewer. Only the strongest kong's and tirebiter toys have stood up so far. The toy design is awesome and my dogs loved it. Had it lasted longer, I would give this toy a 5 star rating.

My dog prefers kibble out of this over her food bowl!,
This review is from: Canine Genius Leo Dog Toy - 8" Assorted (Misc.)
My labrador retriever loves this toy. She will not leave it alone until she has gotten every treat out, and will actually work to get the kibble in the Canine Genius before she eats the kibble sitting in her food bowl. My dog will chew on other toys, but she knows how this one works. We have had the toy for over a year (wish I would have purchased it on here instead of at a doggie boutique; it would have been far cheaper), and my dog still stops whatever she's doing when she sees the Canine Genius heading to the treat cabinet. My dog also loves to play fetch with it, and I love that I can pop it into the dishwasher and get all the drool and crumbs off of it.
I am somewhat confused by the people who have given this toy 1-star reviews because it doesn't withstand chewing. I think that the people at Canine Genius have made it pretty clear that this toy isn't made to be chewed on. I spent some time acclimating my dog to the toy; you can make it easy at first then complicate things with different treats to help your pup "get it." I guess the bottom line is to be mindful of your dog before purchasing this toy. If your dog prefers chewing to playing, then this might not be the right purchase. That's not the toy's fault. But if your dog is inquisitive and has a little patience, then I highly recommend the Canine Genius! Two paws up!

This was OK -- my dog quickly figured out how to roll and tip it so the treats would fall out -- after a while, just stopped using it as it didn't hold his attention for more than a minute.

Not a great puzzle toy,

I wasn't happy with the Leo. I found it difficult to link, when I linked 2, it was really heavy (I can't imagine linking three), and my German Shepherd, who is not a big chewer, ate the neck right off. And after all this, it wasn't terribly challenging for him. Very disappointed.
