major healing in < 12 hrs. I think jesus invented these.,
After spending a full week in pain, to the point where 6-8 Advil a day made little difference, I read reviews for this product (in a different size) and decided to give it a try.
The box says it works best to prevent sores from forming, but it worked wonders on my fully-developed canker sore, which was about the size of a dime on the inside of my lower lip, and sliced through the middle so that nerve endings were exposed -- (sorry; I know that's really gross, but seriously, it was excruciating). After 2 hours I felt a numbing relief; after 6 hours I could tell the canker sore had started to heal over; and a few hours after that, the sore had developed a protective blister-like covering over it, and I could actually eat solid foods again after a week of Starbucks and Jamba Juice (boy was I hungry and cranky this week, esp. since even drinking through straws hurt). I was diligent about putting the discs consecutively, using 5-6 in 10 hours -- the amazing recovery is well worth it. This product actually heals canker sores. The last product I used (Orabase by Colgate) actually aggravated the sore because it was essentially like applying nail glue to the raw surface -- incredibly painful and traumatic when it dislodged, which it did after 30 minutes at best. Note: Cankermelts are not a liquid, but Necco Wafer-like discs, ranging from about 3/8" to 5/8" in diameter. Some may find them a bit awkward to manuveur at first, esp. if your sores are pretty small, but I encourage you to read the directions carefully, and give them a shot. In addition to actually healing the sores, the active ingredient in these are licorice root, not 2-octyl cyanoacrylate (aka nail glue) like in Orabase. I'll take a mild licorice taste over toxic glue any day. Whoever invented this product deserves a medal, or, at the very least (seeing as no "healer of disgusting canker sores" medal exists), to sell a billion of these. I'm stocking up on them like Cold-Eeze.

Most effective treatment I've found.,
By I've tried all of the over the counter treatments. Some of the other products help with the pain, but this is the only one I have found which TRULY shortens the course of the canker sores. Sometimes they are painful on application, if the sore has progressed too far, but the pain goes away pretty quickly, and soon becomes much less than it was before applying the disc. This isn't a problem if I catch the sore early. No matter how bad the sore, and I had some almost as big as the disc, they are either completely gone or nearly so within three days, without fail. I can't recommend Cankermelts enough. Please try them, as I'm sure you will be impressed. I also want everyone to know about these, so that they don't end up going off the market. I don't want to live without these little things!

Product mismatch!,

After 30 years of suffering from canker sores, I was delighted when I discovered these things three years ago. They really do work ... I mostly just wear them at night and let them sit on the sore for eight hours while I sleep, and they turn what would be a 10-day sore into a 2-day sore. It's wonderful.
Unfortunately, I think Amazon is confused. The last time i ordered the product from this page, I got the "new, transparent formula", which has a different box than the one shown. You can see the different box for the transparent formula on the manufacturer's website: [...] The transparent formula doesn't taste like licorice - which is a plus - but it also doesn't work nearly as well for me. So now I'm confused, and I don't know what to buy on Amazon to get what I want, because the box on this page *looks* like the "classic brown" formula box, but that's not what I got when I ordered, and the Amazon catalog doesn't distinguish between the classic brown and the new transparent anywhere.

I've suffered with canker sores for over 20 years. Tried all kinds of things. CankerMelts absolutely WORK for me. I've used them repeatedly for over a year now and I will NEVER allow my supply to run out! It's true, they're not without their downsides (the sort of licorice-coffee taste, the slimy feel in your mouth after a few hours, getting in the way when trying to eat or drink) but compare that to the PAIN and suffering I endured for sometimes weeks at time before, I'll take CankerMelts any day, thank you VERY much. I rarely have to use them more than a couple days in a row now, and I also think the frequency of my canker sores has slowed. By the way, these used to be available at the CVS stores in my area, however, I haven't seen them there now for sometime...I just hope and pray I can always buy them online somewhere, or I don't know what I'll do!

Too stiff to adhere!,

I've only tried these once, and I plan to try again when I have a sore in a more easily accessible area, but last night I had a horrible experience with this product. My canker sore is large, on the inside of my lower lip where it curves, and the canker melt disc was too firm to bend around the area. I couldn't get it to adhere, and when I tried to use my finger to hold it for a few minutes, it stuck to my finger, so when I took my finger out of my mouth, it felt like I was peeling a bandage off the sore. Ouch!
I decided to persevere, because I am at my breaking point with this sore, which is the largest and worst one I have ever had. I tried to use before I went to bed, and I slept with my arm across my face to hold my lip against my teeth, because otherwise the disc would slip out of place. When I woke up two hours later, the disc had glued the sore to my upper teeth, and glued my lips together on one side, so I had to swish water around and forcibly peel them apart, which was excruciating. I ended up rinsing the area with hydrogen peroxide and going back to bed. When I woke up this morning, I saw no change. The sore is still painful, large and white, and swollen underneath with a red, painful throbbing border. Whatever effects this product might have had on my sore were far overshadowed by the pain of trying to unglue the area from my teeth and the frustration of trying to make it adhere. All in all, I had a very bad experience with canker melts. I'm hopeful after reading the positive reviews that this product might work for me in the future, maybe on the inside of my cheek or something. If it does, I will update this review accordingly.

These really do work. It's a bit difficult to get them to stick to the tongue, but it's the only thing that has worked for me. They do shorten the time I have an ulcer and usually they're smaller than a few years ago before I found out about Cankermelts.

Cankermelts for Mouth Sores,
By

Cankermelts promote healing inside the mouth. I suck one when I feel a rash of sores coming on. The cankermelts are both preventative and restorative (for after sores show up).
Cankermelts were developed for canker sores, but I use them for apthos and apthos-like sores that I get.

These work great, don't listen to naysayers!,
After seeing the same negative review for Cankermelts I had to voice my opinion. I have been using Cankermelts for two years now, and they simply work great! Applying them right when you detect a new sore works the best, although it will work on a more developed sore as well. The pain stops quickly and the sores only end up lasting a couple days.
Anyone who experiences redness/irritation that develops into a larger canker sore after using this product probably forgot to wash their hands properly before applying it, introducing bacteria and infection. Wash your hands, this stuff works! Also note that you're not supposed to apply these to lip/cheek bites, but to canker sores. If you are prone to canker sores, a bite is likely to develop into a canker sore but do not apply these until it does so.

Yes, these are hard to adhere. No, they don't taste great. Yeah, you might swallow it in the middle of the night, but who cares. These are the ONLY thing I have found in 30+ years that actually helps heal canker sores. If you use one when you are getting a new sore it might never form, and if it is full blown I've found suffering time is cut in half. I have had chronic issues with canker sores my whole life (although I have figured out what triggers them and that helps) and this is the only product I can find that works. The Cankermelts that are sold in some drug stores are not the same as those you can get online...they are missing something and don't work. They should be brown, not white or clear. Also...Amazons price is outrageous. Look around...(one more tip...try cutting out wheat and or yeast....seems to help a lot).

I wanted to give some tips as I've been using these for several years. They absolutely work and are the only thing I've ever found that will stop canker sores...everything else I've tried is just numbing medication. I have suffered from canker sores my entire life and if you are like me, keep these on hand for when one occurs.
- The minute you begin to fill the onset of a canker sore, start to use the product. About 80% of the time I can actually stop a canker sore from progressing to the point where it becomes painful, i.e- stop the canker sore from developing. Use a flash light to inspect your mouth and look for the classic "white" spot sign of a canker sore starting. it is important you catch the canker sore early to be most effective. - Trim the discs to size using finger nail clippers in order to get a good fit to the area. When near a corner in the mouth, etc. it is often hard to make it stay in place. I find that generally no more than 1/2 a disc is needed. I will break them in half using the edge of the counter and then trim a bit more with the clippers. - Best time is to install it at night before you go to sleep. - It is critical they are in a moist area so they can become slimy and get absorbed. They don't work in all areas, for example I've had canker sores very close to the lip, which is a dryer area and have limited success. - Limit movement of the mouth until they get slimy and you get adhesion, I try to keep my mouth still for a good 10-15 minutes after application. - Redness and some minor tissue swelling often occur. This just tells me that it is getting absorbed. The tissue does not hurt, the redness disappears in a day. Nothing to worry about. When I am able to catch it early and get a good application, they have been 100% successful at stopping and reversing the canker sore development and preventing any pain. THESE ARE GREAT, THEY ARE THE BEST THAT IS OUT THERE. |
