major healing in < 12 hrs. I think jesus invented these.,

After spending a full week in pain, to the point where 6-8 Advil a day made little difference, I read reviews for this product (in a different size, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002M50YW/ref=pd_sbs_hpc_1/104-9592068-8075113?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=3760901 ) and decided to give it a try.
The box says it works best to prevent sores from forming, but it worked wonders on my fully-developed canker sore, which was about the size of a dime on the inside of my lower lip, and sliced through the middle so that nerve endings were exposed -- (sorry; I know that's really gross, but seriously, it was excruciating). After 2 hours I felt a numbing relief; after 6 hours I could tell the canker sore had started to heal over; and a few hours after that, the sore had developed a protective blister-like covering over it, and I could actually eat solid foods again after a week of Starbucks and Jamba Juice (boy was I hungry and cranky this week, esp. since even drinking through straws hurt). I was diligent about putting the discs consecutively, using 5-6 in 10 hours -- the amazing recovery is well worth it. This product actually heals canker sores. The last product I used (Orabase by Colgate) actually aggravated the sore because it was essentially like applying nail glue to the raw surface -- incredibly painful and traumatic when it dislodged, which it did after 30 minutes at best. Note: Cankermelts are not a liquid, but Necco Wafer-like discs, ranging from about 3/8" to 5/8" in diameter. Some may find them a bit awkward to manuveur at first, esp. if your sores are pretty small, but I encourage you to read the directions carefully, and give them a shot. In addition to actually healing the sores, the active ingredient in these are licorice root, not 2-octyl cyanoacrylate (aka nail glue) like in Orabase. I'll take a mild licorice taste over toxic glue any day. Whoever invented this product deserves a medal, or, at the very least (seeing as no "healer of disgusting canker sores" medal exists), to sell a billion of these. I'm stocking up on them like Cold-Eeze.

Made my existence less like hell,

I don't know why no other products work like this. Why did no one else think of a soothing coating of a natural anti-inflammatory? I know, let's give them searing acid instead!
Anyway, just having one of these in my mouth makes things so much better. When I first got these, I thought that's all they were good for, but then I noticed that my ulcers were going away in a day or two rather than a week! Also, none of them progress to the "nightmare" size any more, the ones that make it hard to eat or talk or smooch. A tip: if you can't make them stick, don't worry about it. Just suck on it like a delicious Werther's candy and try to make sure the licorice spit gets on the sore(s). This is pretty much the only way I use them, and it works well. They won't last as long, but I think you get a better whole-mouth treatment. Of course, if you've got one big sore, getting it to adhere for an hour or three is best. Oh, and if you're not using toothpaste made for canker sore sufferers, you're missing out on the best prevention.

So glad this is on the market,
By bcf (Chico, CA USA) - See all my reviews After a good deal of research online, I found this product and visited the company website to learn they that they stock them at my local Longs Pharmacy. The verdict? This stuff works wonders! The pain was immediately subdued to a fraction of what it was, without the numbing or unpleasant taste. I was amazed that I could eat in peace soon after trying it. This product not only lessened the pain of canker sores, but also shortened the healing time. I have at least one box in the medicine cabinet now as I've found using it soon after an accidental bite of your lip/tongue/cheek, ensures that a canker sore never develops. A tip for use: do not expect this product to stick onto your tongue if that is the injured area. Keeping the disc in the general area is good enough to get the same benefit. If you're suffering, try these now! How much is your well-being worh?

I've suffered with canker sore for years. I've learned some of my triggers, such as sodium lauryl sulfate (I switched to JASON toothpastes) and ibuprofen (Advil) makes them much worse.
I've tried all of the over the counter treatments. Some of the other products help with the pain, but this is the only one I have found which TRULY shortens the course of the canker sores. Sometimes they are painful on application, if the sore has progressed too far, but the pain goes away pretty quickly, and soon becomes much less than it was before applying the disc. This isn't a problem if I catch the sore early. No matter how bad the sore, and I had some almost as big as the disc, they are either completely gone or nearly so within three days, without fail. I can't recommend Cankermelts enough. Please try them, as I'm sure you will be impressed. I also want everyone to know about these, so that they don't end up going off the market. I don't want to live without these little things!

Exceptional,
By The first time I used Cankermelts, it was awkward, because I couldn't get the disc to stick to the sore. I also felt a slight burning sensation upon applying the disc, and my saliva became somewhat sticky. Thankfully, I read a review of this product which suggested that the disc needn't be attached directly to the canker sore; having the disc in the vicinity of the canker sore was all that was necessary. This turned out to be great advice, because it was impossible to get the disc to stick to my tongue, for example. I also eventually realized that the disc took about 10 minutes to stick (rather than 2 minutes), and the disc is very easily swallowed while eating. Once I became better acquainted with how to use the discs, I realized IMMENSE AND SUSTAINED PAIN RELIEF, along with VASTLY REDUCED HEALING TIME. This product is amazing!!! I have stocked up in the unfortunate event that the product ever becomes unavailable, as I can no longer live as happily without it. Since I started using this product, I've also had far fewer instances of canker sores. For a long while before I started using these discs, I would have one, two, or three canker sores nonstop for many months. Now, I get one canker sore every few months, and by simply using one disc at bed time for 2 - 3 nights, the canker sore heals, and I feel almost no pain. I can't say enough about this product.

great, but expensive,
By Since I was a new user, these things kept falling off and it was insanely difficult to make it stick, basically, i went through a 12 pack pretty fast and wasted like 9 bucks... i got another pack and kept trying and finally figured out to how to get them to stick (yes, i read the instructions also). Worth the 18 bucks so that i can enjoy speaking and eating again... i just hope this wierd stuff they use in the ingredient isnt cancerous

This review is from: Cankermelts Time-Release Medicated Discs, 36-Count Boxes (Pack of 2) (Health and Beauty)
I tried these last year. THEY ARE AWESOME. They work... For me eating pineapple, orange juice, chocolate with nuts, or hitting the inside of my mouth with my toothbrush triggers them.
Preventavily using mouthwash daily helps. But these actually work! I got some of the Quantam Canker Covers and they were NOT as great. Too gluey, the gel disintegrated in my mouth. Plus I didn't feel the tingling of the mouth healing like I did with the all natural canker melts... |
