While the Big Book of Buds is more or less a seed catalog, the Cannabible is instead a catalog of buds available if you happen to have connisseur connections around the world, plus some of the typical Amsterdam coffeehouse strains. A fair number of these strains are unavailable as seed or are extinct, thus valuable as a curiousity or for history's sake, but I guess it left me wanting information about strains which you could actually grow out. However, the coverage of the 'dam product is useful. He is a firm advocate of organic grown and carefully cured buds and I respect his lack of tolerance for quick cured hydro. Occasionally I think his focus on taste gets in the way of his description of the effects. Praise is due for his superb history of cannabis and its spread through the modern world in addition to a very well documented history of modern cannabis breeding and seedbanks over the past 25 years or so. His views on what's happening to the gene pool and the need to return to more sativa based genetics were interesting and informative. Photography was also excellent, with some amazing microphotography of trichomes, although a million pictures of bud doesn't really do much for me. I would personally like to see more pictures of what the full grown plants actually look like as well as more detailed descriptions of what the experience of each is like. The bulk of the book is pictures of mostly dried buds with sparse descriptions. On a couple of occasions he lapses into some stuff that is a bit new-agey for me, but overall I believe he has kept a fairly level head.

This review is from: The Cannabible (Hardcover)
Sitting on my coffee table - in the rainforest of a jungle town - on a snowcapped and smoking volcano - is my new copy of Jason King's "The Cannabible". I am in awe... The Cannabible is an up-close-and-personal look at the world's most fascinating, useful and controversial plant...cannabis...through the appreciative eyes and lens of an extra-ordinary writer/photographer. Like in the Holy Bible, where so-and-so begat so-and-so, Jason has followed the dots of cannabis plant genetics and creates a linear history of this sacramental species like a modern-day Charles Darwin. His astounding photos are shot in such exquisite detail with lighting so complimentary that you might think your fingers will get sticky from the resin as you turn the pages! This Marco Polo of pot has followed the trail of seed-carriers, cultivators and smugglers from ancient Asia to contemporary Amsterdam, and from high-tech city greenhouses to camo, tree-top grows in Hawai'i, all in search of some of the most heavenly 'highs' on earth. If you enjoy cannabis, you'll enjoy the artistry, science and philosophy of Jason King in The Cannabible. Roger Christie The Hawai'i Cannabis Ministry

Great book, informative, perhaps too critical of certain....,

This review is from: The Cannabible (Paperback)
I have seen many people attacking the Big Book of Buds as being a seed catalog in a books clothes...then saying check out cannabible. I bought the BB of B and agree, it was a glorified seed catalog...the cannabible is 1000% more informative and a more meaningful approach to reviewing the strains is explored - there is also a ton of useful info on storage, different apparatus etc - a very necessary coffee-table book for all "users". One aspect I found a little off in this book however were open attacks on amsterdam bud - I agree with certain points, but the book seemed to attack nether-bud and totally advocate west-coast USA bud...instead of a glorifed seed catalog, it seemed at some points like a west coast sales pitch - I've experienced the dam-stock and do not totally agree..never-the-less a great book and really, is a must have, the best book in its catagory.

Surprisingly well done,

This review is from: The Cannabible (Hardcover)
Why surprising? Er, because it's a coffee table book about weed. I was expecting good photos, but the book also provides an informative and well written intro by Robert Connell Clarke (one of the foremost authorities on mj), well edited descriptions of the many strains, interesting supplementary topics from the mind of Jason King (e.g., vaporization), and excellent layout and design. And the photos are fantastic, particularly the microscopic shots. I give it four stars instead of five only because I would have liked to see more. Bring out Cannabible II, with the scratch and sniffs.

Very informative and helpful,
By Chris Iverson (Switzerland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Cannabible (Hardcover)
I am a large scale hemp and cannabis farmer in Switzerland and one of our biggest problems is when we must select seeds and genetics that best suit our growing needs and this book is proving to be very helpful in making some very important decisions. Not only does it provide high quality photographs of the most recognized and enjoyed strains from around the world it has a remarkable amount of information on strains that are mostly unheard of. This book is a true masterpeice and the amount of time and energy that went into its creation is something that will inspire people to new highs! A must for any small or large scale grower or farmer of the sacred herb.

I was recommended this book by a friend of mine. Oh My God!!! As soon as I opened it I knew I was in love. Not only does this book provide detailed descriptions of the most exotic cannabis strains on the planet but it also shows in-depth look into resin glands via his Marijuana Microphotography. www.TheCannabible.com website alone will convince you that this book belongs on your shelf too. Bring on Volume 2 we are ready and waiting!!!!

Eye candy for the cannabis connisseur!,
By Diarmaid "Diarmaid" (Bethesda, MD USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Cannabible (Hardcover)
OK, so I'm not a connisseur; Heck, I'm not even sure if I spelled the word right or not! There's nothing like a beautiful hardback book with detailed colour pictures! Although this may be considered a coffee-table book by some, I've seen it as a great introduction to the history of the plant, its strains, its breeding history, the different bud highs, etc... A wonderful gift for the pothead in your life!

Outstanding!,
This review is from: The Cannabible (Hardcover)
This author deserves at least five stars for his unparalleled effort! The Cannabible is a monumental work that will form the base of marijuana identification in the future. King has dedicated his life to writing about and photographing cannabis. His passion permeates every page of the book. We need more dedicated author/photographers like him. Traveling the world collecting information about an illegal plant is difficult and dangerous. King has risen to the occasion and provided great photographs and engaging text on my favorite plant. This connoisseur-quality book is a welcome addition to my library. My Cannabible II is on the way now!

Beautiful and interesting : unique,

This review is from: The Cannabible (Hardcover)
As an European, having read the previous reviews of Cannabible, I was prepared, too, to dislike Jason King's elitism. Nevertheless, where and whenever I have been able to test his controverted statements, I've found him dead right. Most notably relating to organic growing and its effect on the quality of the flower (as opposed to its commercial convenience : cost/yield/"strength"). As an ex-pro in the gastronomy guide business (in France!) as well as a keen grower, I think I can detect most fakes. King rings dedicated and true. If he has personal likes, dislikes and foibles, that's his right. Whether or not the wealth of information and the beautiful photos will be directly useful to most readers, I doubt; but it's a work to be proud of (author) and to own with pleasure (amateur/grower).
