4.0 out of 5 stars not the best cannibal movie i own...
but it certainly isn't the worst. actually, i really enjoyed Cannibals. occasionally the slow motion effect feels overused, but this movie lived up to my 70's Italian cannibal film expectations.

could have been more gore and more nudity, but that's the way with 90% of the movies i view. yeah, nothing wrong with Cannibals, especially for $10 or around...

1.0 out of 5 stars Another Bomb From Yoda
YARGH! Jess Franco's hack-dashery shines as bright as ever in this horrid entry into the Italian cannibal sub-genre. 1.0 out of 5 stars Another Bomb From Yoda, October 3, 2010
This review is from: Cannibals (DVD)
YARGH! Jess Franco's hack-dashery shines as bright as ever in this horrid entry into the Italian cannibal sub-genre. Cannibals exit water dry, paint their faces in day-lo colors and some even sport hair styles, porn 'staches and wedding rings! The actual cannibalism is typical Franco slow-motion, close-up dreck and the super plump and crazy righteous Lina Romay is utterly wasted in her role as Jeremy Taylor's nurse & caretaker, Ana.

The locations are absolutely unconvincing for a cannibal film about deep jungle cannibals and there's even cactus and rattlesnakes on display here! The only shining moments of brilliance in this film are Sabrina Siani and the end credits. What a pile of steaming stupidity.

1.0 out of 5 stars 97 on the vomit meter, perhaps because it's so bad, February 2, 2008
This review is from: Cannibals (DVD)
If you like cannibals that look distinctly, well, European, this is the movie for you. Most cannibal movies of the time in which they were made (Late 70's, early 80's) seemed to at least pick actors (or non-actors) for their cannibals that looked the part, these folks look as cannibalistic as Adam & the Ants. The story, such as it is, is that a group is attacked by these cannibals (on a boat, at sea) and while the mom is eaten dad is taken prisoner, loses an arm & his young daughter, and then goes in search of her later. He finds the tribe, and his daughter, all grown up and immodest for visitors. Dad then must battle her prospective mate for custody. The gut munching scenes in this are a bit less realistic than your average cannibal chow-down, and at times it looks like the actors (or non-actors) are eating minute steaks off the bodies of their victims. Franco is generally pretty trashy at best but thankfully he didn't make too many like this one. 1 star out of 5, bleah.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible..., March 3, 2008
This review is from: Cannibals (DVD)
I'm a huge fan of splatter movies. I can't see why a renowned movie reviewer like joe bob briggs would say this movie is a "97 on the vomit meter." The "gory" parts of this film are all up close shots of the 'cannibals' eating their victims, meaning you can't see the victims face when they are being eaten, which therefore makes it look like the cannibals aren't even eating a person, but just horribly fake looking entrails. All of the scenes containing the alleged cannibals eating victims are shot as close ups of the cannibals' face in slow-mo. The slow-mo scenes are so overly done. Every slow-mo scene lasts longer than 2 minutes, and EVERY SINGLE MUNCHING SCENE IS IN SLOW-MO LIKE THIS!

I can't say I expected much from the dubbing, but I guess I don't understand how the cannibals, whom speak a language other than English, can speak English...

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! This movie is pure filth. If you want a GOOD cannibal movie, check out Cannibal Holocaust (that's a given) or Anthropophagus.

1.0 out of 5 stars GARBAGE, January 29, 2008
This review is from: Cannibals (DVD)
this movie is such garbage, the cannibals were so stupid looking (best i can think of at the moment). i have lots of faults with this movie but being a big fan of cannibal movies one thing i find really anoying is the fact that the cannibals (who are humans, not zombies) are eating there victims raw. trash pure trash.
