I got the AC adapter for the p-150. It looks nothing like the picture shown with the Amazon product description so I posted a couple photos of an actual AC adapter here. In general, the adapter is compact in size and, to me, preferable to having to rely on two USB cables to provide power for maximum scan speed.

Not sure if it will fit in the canon case for the scantini, as I do not have the case.

03/24/2012 - I now have the case for the scantini and YES, the AC adapter fits very well in the canon case...along with the USB cables.

instead of paying the $35 for this, just plug the P-150M's second "power cable" that comes with the device into any 5amp USB power adapter such as that included with most iPhone/iPods/other mobile phones. You can get such an adapter for much much less than $35 and it has the same effect of making the scanner's motor run faster.

Picture is totally wrong but the adapter makes a huge difference on the P-150. Well worth the few extra dollars to get with the scanner.

I spent close to a whole afternoon looking over scanner options, and finally decided on this based on the reviews and close to 20 years of satisfaction with Canon products. It's great! And the software is an improvement over the Lide 210 interface.

I purchased a Canon P-215 scanner for work. While in a client's home, it allows me to scan a client's documents. Unfortunately, the USB ports on my old and crappy notebook computer do not provide enough power to operate the scanner. I suspect that none of my USB ports on my notebook computer are powered. Thus the Canon 4179B004 AC Adapter was the power solution I needed. When I buy my next notebook computer, I will make sure it has powered USB ports.

WATCH THE PRICE. Canon's list price for the DR-150 A/C adapter or the ImageFORMULA P-150 is $35, and it is available at that price or less around the WWW. Canon is out-of-stock from time to time but that does not mean discontinued, they are shipping it for $35 as of November 26, 2013. That said, when using with a desktop, using the power adapter may be preferable to taxing a USB hub that has a lot of accessories already on it. The included USB-to-power cable is preferable for use with a laptop or a powered USB hub that is not overtaxed.

It didn't scan any more sheets per minute as Canon advertises. I have also purchased a new laptop, so I was able to compare speeds.
