Canon ACK-E2 AC Adapter for EOS 5D, 10D, 20D, D60, D30 & Digital Rebel Cameras

If your camera spends any amount of time connected to your computer--either copying pictures, or using the remote capture program--you should have this AC adapter. It is also obviously handy to have if you do a lot of shooting from a fixed location--for instance: a tripod.

The adaptor is an ingenious little contraption. There is the normal AC line that runs to the power adapter, but instead of running the DC output to a dedicated jack on the camera body, the connector is in the shape of the normal battery pack. If you look closely at your camera, you will see a little grove at the bottom of the battery compartment providing enough room for a wire to exit.

Now for the surprise. I'm planning a trip to Europe. I knew the battery charger that came with the camera, and this AC adapter both support 100-240 volts AC, 50-60 Hz input. Which covers all the worlds power supplies. But the battery charger included with the camera only came with the US power cord. I've been looking for various European cords that would fit the charger so I could keep my batteries topped off overseas. What should I find when I open the box to this adaptor? A complete collection of all the worlds cords, which also happen to fit the charger. What a win, now I can run my camera on AC, and stay charged while I'm on vacation.

I use my Canon 10d mainly for Astrophotography. Most of the time,
it involves keeping the camera shutter open for long periods of
time, anywhere from a few minutes to tens of minutes. This ACK-E2
adapter takes my worries away from monitoring battery status or a
drained one, while i control the camera remotely sitting inside my
house. Continuous power also ensures worry free writes to its flash
storage. The package included several AC power connectors which is
very useful while travelling. Amazon provides a wide range of items
to choose from.

As I was searching for this item on Amazon, I found several different "versions" listed, with different product sub-numbers included in the description. You can ignore these differences. As long as it's an ACK-E2, it's what you're looking for. Buy the least expensive one!

I received what looked like what I ordered, but when I opened the box, all I saw were international power adapters, not a battery adapter as pictured.

There are two different ACK-E2's for/from Canon. The item description says that this is for EOS Digital Rebel Digital Cameras. Not completely true. This one is for the Canons that take a rounded battery pack. If you have the square battery (Rebel XSi) with the contact tab at the end - this one will not work. I sent it back and got the correct one. No issues with the right part for the right camera.

I use this for studio and product photo work
It is a tremendous benefit to not have to change setups just to swap a dead battery

Got this for AC power for my Canon 40D.
This is recommended when manually cleaning the camera sensor.

The adapter allows the camera to be operated on AC power when downloading pictures, displaying pictures, or operating the camera for an extending period of time when AC power is available. The battery door must be closed for the adapter to work.

This ac adapter for continuous power is everything I wanted to perform tethered photo shoots. It works great and I highly recommend it.

I have a "Time Machine" camera control for triggered exposures. In order for it to work, the camera has to be left on. When I had attempted to take stop action pictures of the lunar eclipse the battery was dead before the eclipse was full. If I had this adapter at the time, this would not had been a problem.
Using this adapter I have taken over 100 continuous flash exposures. I have taken stop action exposures continuously for over 12 hours with 6 minute gaps.
I would have liked Canon to have provided another way of powering the camera with ac, but they didn't.
