5.0 out of 5 stars Don't be pennywise and dollar foolish!
Stick with OEM and don't experiment with generic brands; it isn't worth it. I use this product on the S500 primarily for CD labeling...lots of graphics and color. Reproduction is excellent and I get my $$$worth. When you get the pop-up window stating that the ink is low for one color, don't think it is empty. Far from it....it can go several days with the pop-up still on...

1.0 out of 5 stars Incompatible with i560
Do NOT buy this product if you have an i560. That model is not listed on the packaging. Amazon's search engine will incorrectly point to this product if you use the term "canon i560 ink" as I did. I had to send it back. Avoid the hassle by not buyinig this item if you have an i560.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing Beats Genuine Canon Ink!, November 21, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Canon BCI-3e Multipack Ink Tanks - 4 Pack (Black/Cyan/Magenta/Yellow) (4479A230) (Office Product)
If you have a canon printer you're probably very happy with its color reproduction. If you wish to keep that going stick to genuine ink. I recently bought generic ink in an effort to save a buck. What happened? I got horrible results! The "black" ink looked more like deep green, every picture I printed had an unatural color, and the colors were never in balance. Some colors would appear too strong, while others would appear weak. Most generic ink smells like permanent marker and doesn't last, the images fade quickly when placed regularly out in the open, genuine canon ink does not fade, and is practically odorless. The price of genuine canon ink is of course higher than the generic stuff, but you're paying for quality. If you want quality printing, you need quality ink. Don't buy generic, buy this instead!

I have a Canon Multi-Pass printer which printed outstanding color photos from my digital camera until I decided to purchase refurbished ink tanks at a very low price. DON'T DO IT!!! The ink that is used in refurbished tanks are inferior and caused me to ruin my printer head. The new head cost me $80.
I now use the Canon Multi-Pack, which I purchase from Amazon at a really good price and I am back to printing great color photos once again.
I learned my lesson the costly way, don't you.

These are great inks, I use them, yadda yadda.. I'm simply here with a friendly tip I just realized:

If you buy them separately and make sure the seller is amazon, it'll only cost 30.61 with free "super shipper" shipping.

OEM ink works best in Canon printers. No problems with clogged heads or bad print. I have had my Canon S600 for a year now and have never even put it through a cleaning cycle and it works perfect. This set has the three colored tanks and a black. I would suggest going directly to the office supply store that is supplying this to Amazon and get it from their site. They are always offering coupons and free shipping as well.

As previously said, nothing beats OEM materials when quality matters; especially since Canon makes better than average inks and papers. I not only had poor results with off-brand inks before, but actually had much shorter catridge life as well.

The only beef I've had is that they use the same model number (BCI-3e) for both the photo and non-photo versions. THEY ARE NOT INTERCHANGABLE! I got photo ink for my i850 by mistake and the results were horrible.

I tried some cheaper ink sold by Amazon, but the results were not good. Colors came out wrong and I couldn't print in black at all. I wasn't sure if it was my printer or the ink. I bought these and my problems cleared up. I took one star off because they are much more expensive. I know you get what you pay for but these are significantly more expensive.

3.0 out of 5 stars Is it fresh, virgin Canon? or not?, December 19, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Canon BCI-3e Multipack Ink Tanks - 4 Pack (Black/Cyan/Magenta/Yellow) (4479A230) (Office Product)
Although the cartridges look like genuine Canon, and work adequately, they did not come in the Canon packaging shown in the illustration---which I find worrisome.

The price I paid ($27) I paid is the price of fresh genuine virgin Canon, not the price of a cheap refills, OEM, 3rd-party cartridges, counterfit cartridges, or out-of-date repackaged cartridges.

Unfortunately, everytime I order ink cartridges, the vendor(s) are never the same. I suggest contacting the seller and asking for assurance that the product is fresh virgin original Canon cartridges in original Canon packaging before purchasing.

I can't criticize these cartridges, but the "helpful" Amazon tool that advises buyers of printer compatibility is WAY OFF on this one. It says they are compatible with the IP4000, and I fell into the trap and ordered them. Nothing on the box suggests this compatibility, so I asked a Canon technician. The answer: "The Canon BCI-3e Color Ink Tank is not one of the ink tanks that is recommended for your IP4000. The BCI-6 is the right color ink tank for your printer." Thanks, Canon, and "thanks a lot," Amazon. Now I have to return them and hope Amazon takes responsibility for misleading me.
