Quality is great, but the price not so much...
This is the genuine Canon ink cartridge. In my opinion, it is best to use manfacturers' ink (others will disagree and use generic). The quality is great and I've never had a problem with one (been buying them for 6 years or so) - but they are pricey. My Canon ip8500 takes 8 cartridges or about USD100 of ink...

This review is for Canon BCI-6 ink tanks. As I have found with all the Canon products I've owned, these are rather expensive, but are of excellent quality. Having owned other, less expensive, printer brands, and having been disappointed by them, I always opt for a Canon poduct if one is available in my price range. The ink, of course, is part of the bargain. I never refill and I never use non-Canon ink. While expensive, I feel the quality of the outcome is worth the price. I would, and do, recommend Canon to anyone considering a printer / copier purchase.

I've tried cheaper inks, and they always clog up the head before they're done. I have never had a problem with the Canon ink. It costs a couple of bucks more, but it's worth it. This is how the printer companies make their money, which is fine by me since the printers are so cheap to begin with. When looking for ink online, interestingly the prices differ by color! For some reason, the Red was cheapest on Amazon, at least on the day I looked.

Well, it's a red ink cartridge for my Canon i9900. Seems to work just fine.
Bottom line: no problems and it's red. :)
