5.0 out of 5 stars BP-200
This is a must have for any Rebel 2000 owner. The BP helps balance the camera if you have a large telephoto lens and the vertical shutter adds great functionality. It still maintains a hole for tripod/monopod mounting. It is worth the small investment.

1.0 out of 5 stars lost shots + melting battery contacts = very poor item
During the limited time that I used the battery pack with my Rebel (3 hours) I lost 2 shots because the contacts seemed to have slipped from the battery. On top of that, the battery pack overheated that night (with the camera off) and melted the battery contacts inside my Rebel body. Canon had to replace the body - it couldn't even be fixed. Then I was told how this...

5.0 out of 5 stars More than just a battery pack!, January 4, 2001
This review is from: Canon BP200 Battery Pack for Canon EOS Rebel 2000 (Electronics)
This is a great addition to the camera. It does more than just give you the ability to use AA batteries. While providing better balance when shooting horizontal shots, turn the camera vertically and you will be pleasantly surprised at the new found grip this battery pack provides. It also adds a very handy extra shutter button so when you turn the camera vertically you don't have to reach over to push original shutter button. Therefore, giving you much better balance when shooting vertically. Also when using an electronic flash, this pack acts as a counter weight to offset the additional weight from the flash and again giving you better balance while shooting. Excellent buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great extension for your camera, October 20, 2000
This review is from: Canon BP200 Battery Pack for Canon EOS Rebel 2000 (Electronics)
I have the BP-200 for some weeks now and i love it. First the use of normal aa batteries is nice way to lower cost. The extra grip and shutter release button are very helpfull. I use it with my Canon EOS 300 (european model) and i don't want to lose it. It's Just Great.

5.0 out of 5 stars I never knew how much better the camera would be to hold., July 11, 2001

Got the BP-200, put it on (it was a slight pain to get the battery lid off) and immediately felt like the camera was a whole new body to hold. Took it off again and realized that I can't go back to not having the BP-200 on.

So, for me, it's staying on the camera for as long as I have my Rebel 2000.

And it really did help when I have an external flash mounted on the camera too!

Then I was told how this happens with alarming frequency. The extreme inconvenience of not having my camera body for 2 months and those lost shots means I will NOT be using the BP-200 again, regardless of how much more substantial it made my camera feel.

The batery pack really makes using the camera a lot more comfortable. I wasn't totally sure how this would work out, but so far it has been great. I'll answer a few questions that I was wondering about this product just in case you are sitting on the fence. There is another tripod hole on the bottom pack and you do not have to remove the battery compartment cover to install it. I feel as though the vertical shutter release is a little awkward to use, but it is nice to have it anyway. This was a good addition to my camera, a great buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars BP-200, April 16, 2003

This review is from: Canon BP200 Battery Pack for Canon EOS Rebel 2000 (Electronics)
I recently purchased the Canon BP-200 and would like to say that it compliments the camera nicely. If you own a rebel eos 300 series, then you know how light the camera is (Too light that is!). The battery pack adds a good weight to steady those camera shots and for those with tripods, there is a hole for a mount on the bottom of the battery pack! Also, to avoid circuit discharge, common sense tells you that you don't leave batteries in any mechanism when not in use. Canon has reasssured me that under proper use, the product is guaranteed to work with the EOS rebel 300/2000 and will not cause any malfunction. Two thumbs up for this accesory!

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE, December 14, 2005
This review is from: Canon BP200 Battery Pack for Canon EOS Rebel 2000 (Electronics)
I have owned this adapter for as long as I've owned my Rebel--since January of 2002. I have NEVER used CR2 batteries in the body. The battery pack has ALWAYS been loaded with name brand batteries--ALWAYS. The battery pack has never been without batteries; the camera is always ready to shoot and this accessory has never failed--I shoot a fair amount of film in this camera. I have even left my camera "on" for days many a time without incident.

That being said, I have never heard of such a thing as the contacts melting, etc. I'm sure this can occur with anything electronic so I don't dispute another's account. Let's be fair, however.

This thing is all lightweight plastic. As far as durability goes, I couldn't say. My setup has been pretty pampered as it should be; I have a $500 28-300 mm lens on the end of it. For shooting vertical shots, the focus/shutter release button on the side means you don't have to follow the camera's shutter button with an awkward hand twist. You can turn this setting on/off so you don't accidentally hit this second shutter release and shoot unwanted frames. The battery pack also aids in giving the camera more room for a firm grip. Since this thing uses readily available AA batteries, you can find fresh power even in the most remote backwoods trading posts. How sure are you to find CR2's in a pinch?

Overall, I am forced into giving this product a flawless 5 stars based on my extensive experience with it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just OK, August 28, 2003

This review is from: Canon BP200 Battery Pack for Canon EOS Rebel 2000 (Electronics)
The BP-200 adds functionality to my Rebel 2000, but admittedly I'm a bit disappointed. It definately has a cheap feel to it. It does help with the balance on the camera and is egonomically better than the standard grip. I just wish it felt more substantial.
