4.0 out of 5 stars Another great accessory for Elan II/IIe, October 4, 2000

This review is from: Canon BP50 Battery Pack for EOS Elan II (Retail Package) (Electronics)
Although the Elan II/IIe camera is wonderfully ergonomically designed, the BP-50 improves this aspect even more, particularly for vertical shots, but even for horizontal ones as well. The shutter release on the vertical grip is convenient, and the user still has access to the thumb wheel on the back. Unfortunately, there is no redundant main dial on the shutter release on the grip. Also, when you have CF-4 set to 1 (autofocus on the AE lock button) then it's nearly impossible to use autofocus in the vertical position (unless you have a really long thumb!). Another advantage of the grip, though, is the ability to use AA batteries with the camera. You probably could pay for the grip over time with the savings of using AAs over buying the 2CR5 batteries. And AAs are a lot more readily available than 2CR5s, should you need batteries in a bind. In summary, if most of the pictures you take are hand-held, such as sports and candid portraiture, then the BP-50 is definitely worthwhile.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy This Necessity, July 24, 2002

If you have this camera and a functional lens for it, then buy this accessory before any other and begin to save money on batteries immediately. By using AA batteries you save enough money to pay for this thing quite soon, and if you use rechargeables, like I do, for nearly everything that uses AA batteries, you pay for it even quicker.
It adds a balance to these cameras which helps you feel comfortable taking photos from angles you would have hesitated from before. As a former full-time journalist I started carrying this type of camera because they were cheap enough to have several alike, you didn't get your heart broken if they got destroyed, and you can find plenty of affordable, useful accessories for them. This is not a luxury item, but a necessity. Buy it!

Can't think of anything bad to say about this little gadget. You'll save money and time by using the AA battery option, and when you attach this to your EOS body, people take notice. This is a very professional working and looking tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product!!, August 10, 2006

I bought this about a month now and wow this saved me a lot of money on batteries since I use my canon elan alot. The feature of the shutter release button is well thought of in the production stage. It is a good product well worth the money.

I have a Canon camera which uses expensive lithium batteries that don't last very long. I'd been having problems with batteries for awhile and frankly, was getting tired of paying for the lithium batteries. I looked online for rechargeable batteries and found this. It takes both the lithium or 4 AA batteries - and either work very well. Although the lithium batteries are not rechargeable, I got some AA batteries that are and I'm very pleased overall. I wish I had found this item years ago.

A little pity that it doesn't have a main dial and an AE lock on it. it gets really hard to use automatica exposure when you are shooting vertical. Otherwise a very nice accessory of ElanII.
