5.0 out of 5 stars This is second most used color. Comparison of usage of different colors by Canon printer
I have a Canon Photo Printer which takes six CLI-8 Canon Ink Cartridges. The cost of each individual ink cartridge ranges from around $12.50-15 (on Amazon) to 18.99 in Staples. So no matter how you buy the genuine Canon Ink Cartridges keeping yourself ready to print photos is expensive.

You can get a better per cartridge of you buy them in Canon CLI-8 4-Color...

1.0 out of 5 stars Way Too Expensive
How can the Canon reps sleep at night? This ink is mediocre at best and does fade very quickly. For this kind of ridiculous price, you'd expect better.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is second most used color. Comparison of usage of different colors by Canon printer, January 29, 2011

This review is from: Canon CLI-8PC Photo Cyan Ink Tank (Office Product)
I have a Canon Photo Printer which takes six CLI-8 Canon Ink Cartridges. The cost of each individual ink cartridge ranges from around $12.50-15 (on Amazon) to 18.99 in Staples. So no matter how you buy the genuine Canon Ink Cartridges keeping yourself ready to print photos is expensive.

You can get a better per cartridge of you buy them in Canon CLI-8 4-Color Multipack Ink Tanks. In that case each individual cartridge is a little less expensive. Canon package CL-8C (Cyan), CL-8M (Magenta), CL-8Y (Yellow), and CL-8BK (Black) as a pack ($40-44 on Amazon). When cartridges are sold in packs you might think those colors are used at similar rates... but that is not so.

I have kept track of the usage of the cartridges over a long period of time and would like to share these results with you.

Number of cartridges used

CL-8M Magenta = 5

CL-8Y Yellow = 8

CL-8B Black = 6

CL-8PC Photo Cyan = 6

CL-8PM Photo Magenta = 8

CL-8C Cyan = 4

My usage shows that yellow is used the most, followed closely by Photo Magenta, followed next by Black and Photo Cyan, and trailed by Cyan and Magenta. Note that I have a laser printer that I used for text otherwise the usage of the Black Cartridge would have been a lot higher.

I buy most of my color photo ink on-line from Amazon. However now that Staples began (again) accepting CL-8 cartridges for Staples Rewards in their recycling empty cartridges program, I wanted to analyze my usage to see which cartridges I should buy at Staples using my Staples Rewards.

My original thought was to buy Canon CLI-8PC Photo Cyan Ink Tank and Canon CLI-8PM Photo Magenta Ink Tank since they don't come in a pack. But given the usage chart above, it is clear that I should buy extra Yellow and Photo Magenta.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely pleased, January 5, 2007
This review is from: Canon CLI-8PC Photo Cyan Ink Tank (Office Product)
Everytime I've purchased any Canon ink cartridge, and I've purchased well over a hundred bargain brand's and Canon's, I've been extremely pleased with:
o no clogging,
o quality print,
o page count per cartridge printing,
o every cartridge printing when installed

The only negative would be their high pricing, but I guess it proves the old axiom "you get what you pay for".

What can you say about ink? I found no problems with it... it arrived quickly, was about $30 cheaper for all 6 than buying them at the store. As long as you ready your printer manual to find out exactly what ink you need, and check the product to make sure you're buying the right thing, there shouldn't be any problems.

I purchased this for my PIXMA ip4200 Canon printer. The 'will this work with my printer' feature assured me it would work with my printer. It didn't! I credit Amazon with a quick response and refunding of my money. Just wanted to save anyone else from making this mistake. Canon and Amazon are both excellent companies.

This is a factory sealed Canon ink tank, which is high quality to begin with. So, getting such a low price from Amazon is awesome. Worth the money. Buy a few to get the free shipping and you're good to go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hideously Expensive, but Superior Quality, November 6, 2011

The original Canon inks are expensive enough to make me cringe whenever the thought of replacing them comes up ("check ink level -- ink level is low"). But I have to say that I've been using these Canon cartridges for about four years now, and they have all worked flawlessly on a whole series of paper types: plain, plain coated, heavy stock, semi gloss photographic, and high gloss premium photographic. The results are simply stunning. When printed on the right paper with an image that has been properly prepared, my Canon injet printer (I use an older model, the Canon i6600) knocks out images that far exceed what you would normally find on reproduction prints. When I see what this ink (and printer) can do, it makes me hold back my anger at the cost of replacing the ink when necessary.

My printer uses six ink colors (Black, Cyan, Yellow, Magenta, Photo Cyan, and Photo Magenta). One can sometimes find a slight reduction in price by buying in sets or in multiple packs, so do your homework before you purchase. Some of the packs that offer discounts are for the larger, eight-ink printers, so if you have one of those, again, look carefully for these sets before you make a purchase so that you don't mistakenly end up with two extra colors that are not used by your printer. I have found that it pays to strategize with these purchases, rather than just purchasing the one ink that is running low at the moment. Take advantage of price reduction sets, and then build a little pile of ink cartridges at home while you wait for other inks to run out. It's a bit more "up front" cost, but can pay off over the long run. If you buy original ink like this from the manufacturer, you aren't likely to get "cheap" costs, but you can reduce the costs a little from off list.

So, again, other than the high cost, I rate these Canon inks as simply excellent. They work very well, have excellent color (and generally long durability), don't seem to ever clog or cause other problems in the printer, and can really help you make the most out of your inkjet printer (particularly if you are printing photos). If all you ever do is print out color handouts for documents, you MIGHT consider an OEM or "off brand" as these distinctions won't matter as much to you. But for photo printing, I recommend these Canon inks.

Let's see. It's an ink tank. For a Canon inkjet printer. That you insert and use. Phew - I'm exhausted.

5.0 out of 5 stars Use only original when you want the best, August 6, 2007

I've just upgraded to a Pro9000 from my 'old' i900D and what a difference right out of the box. The dedicate green and red cartridges make a huge difference. I've tried refillables before and will never again deal with the hassle and mess to save a few pennies and get inferior results. To those who give it one or two stars, read the literature to see what cartridges work with your particular printer. The "Photo" cartridges are not designed for your small 4 or 5 cartridge printers. Remember, you're rating the product, not your expertise!

It kills me how someone can write a negative review for something when it was their stupidity that caused them to order the wrong item. If you are unsure of what to buy, visit Canon's USA site for a list of compatible inks for your printer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lasts long, January 18, 2012
This review is from: Canon CLI-8PC Photo Cyan Ink Tank (Office Product)
I really like my Cannon printer. Though there are several cartridges they really seem to last a long time and each cartridge is around $14.00, better than $30 - $40 a cartridge!
