CanoScan LiDE 60 - Great scanner at a great price!,
This scanner is very light and compact. No annoying AC power brick to get in your way as it gets power from USB connection. Small enough to slip into a notebook bag for traveling. Uses small LED light bar instead of traditional fluorescent bulb to perform scan allowing for smaller footprint. A nice touch is the included stand so you can mount it upright on a desk. However, in order to scan this way, the document must be flat else it will fall off the platen before you can close the lid.Very pleased with scan speed due in part to its high speed USB 2.0 connection. For 200 dpi B/W docs, speed is not much different from my old scanner. The speed of this scanner really shines for color dpi settings of 600 and above. I can scan a 1200 dpi photo in less than a minute. My old scanner took several minutes to perform the same feat. An important consideration for any scanner is its scan driver. An excellent scanner with a crappy driver will yield disappointing results. The LiDE 60 has an excellent driver with modes for beginners and experts. I had 20+ year old photos that were faded and by setting the fade correction in the driver software, I got scans which looked better with more accurate color than the original photos. It can also scan multiple photos in one pass and the driver will automatically crop and save each photo as a separate file. A great time saver if you're scanning lots of photos. This scanner does not have a transparency adapter, so if you want to scan 35mm photo negatives or slides you'll need a different scanner. Some may be turned off that it's "only" 1200 dpi, whereas some scanners on the market in this price range are 2400 dpi or higher. Unless you plan to scan 4x6 photos and make lots of 11x17 blowups, 1200 dpi is more than enough if all you plan to do is scan photos to save on your computer. I use 600 dpi for scanning photos. I've done comparisons of a photo scanned at 600 and 1200 and barely notice a difference even at high magnification. Plus the jpeg file size of a 1200 dpi scan is about 3 times larger than that of a 600 dpi scan. The only annoyance is the high pitched noise it makes as the light bar moves across the platen, particularly at 300 dpi or less. It's much quieter using resolutions higher than 300 dpi because the light bar moves more slowly. This is a minor nitpick as you get used to it after a few scans. I really like this scanner and highly recommend it. You get a lot of value for the price.

One of those great products that just works.,
By Mr. C (Lexington, MA USA) - See all my reviews 1) Very slim, stores away easily. 2) Draws power from the USB port on my PC. No adapter to deal with. 3) The multipage PDF option. Perfect for scanning all my tax docs before they go off to the accountant. I just scan and scan, and it makes a single pdf with a page for each scan.

I do light scanning with a home computer and have nothing but good things to say about this canon unit. It serves my needs very well and it is a big plus to not have an extra power cord, since this one operates from the USB. The software is easy to use and understand. My son uses a higher level canon scanner in his business and recommended this unit to me. I couldn't be more satisfied.

Worth Every penny,
I got this scanner to transfer and organize all of my old photos onto my computer. I have scanned over 1,100 pictures with this scanner. I have nothing to say except that this scanner works flawlessly. Highly recommended.

Nice, Fast, Simple Scanner,

I purchased this scanner to replace an old slow unit. Installation was quick and easy, although you have to click through each of the software packages one-by-one. I tried it briefly standing up on its side. I didn't have any trouble with a single page of paper slipping out. However, that piece of paper was a bit crumpled and so it did not lie flat against the glass very well, which gave me a scan full of shadows. When I redid the scan with the scanner flat and a small weight on top of the lid, the scan came out much better. It also seemed like it would be too easy to knock it over when it was standing on its side, so I will stick to keeping it flat.I dug out a few stacks of old photos and ran them through. I used basic 300 dpi color scanning with tone correction and multi-cropping. All I had to do was put 4 pictures at a time on the platen. They were spaced apart but didn't have to be particularly straight. Then I just pressed (and held for a second or two) the scan button on the front and the scanner did all the rest of the work. It identified the pictures, corrected the rotation, put the 4 new images into a folder for me, and opened them in photoshop. Very nice, very easy. I scanned a total of 80 photos that way in 30 minutes, so pretty quick too. For scanning accuracy, I played with partial scans of a $20 bill. (Partial, not full, and I did not keep the results. Money is just a good source for microprint.) At the advertised 1200dpi the scanner had no trouble reading the microprint between the number 20 and Jackson's shoulder. Overall, a very nice scanner to use. I recomend it. The only quirks I had were the instability and poor platen-contact when used on its side, and the fact that the front buttons sometimes had to be held a little to register with the software. Neither of those were worth lowering my rating to 4 stars.

Little workhorse,

I had an earlier Cannon LiDE. It was great until I packed it in a suitcase and crushed the glass. Don't do that. These scanners are fantastic though. I cart them everywhere (i.e., archives and libraries) and run them constantly. The software for the Mac is fine and gives a great number of options for saving the image. The resolution is more than enough for all of my work (which includes photographs for archiving and publication). I especially like this model because the scan speed is double earlier/lower priced models. The extra cost is more than made up in increased productivity.

I found it very easy to use and especially to email (scan) newspaper articles. Very clear and you can e-mail with the push of one button.Needed it after my All-in-one scanner quit on my HP. This is my first review, but I use them when I am researching an item and find them very useful.

Just hooked up this little scanner that is a simple plug & play. Scans quickly (though not silently) with a lot of optional settings. Definitely worth the $75 for your basic, at-home scanning of high- (photos) and low- (images for online use) resolution. Also supposed to scan text into data (as opposed to just an image) ... hope to try that feature out soon.
