Canon EOS Rebel XS camera is designed to embody what you have come to expect from the EOS Rebel series -- a fast, non-intimidating, lightweight, easy-to-use camera that produces excellent images and starts emerging photographers off on the right foot. The new Rebel model also incorporates Canon's DIGIC III image processor, 10.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, Live View, Auto Lighting Optimizer, 7-point wide-area autofocus (AF) sensor and 3.0 frames per second continuous JPEG burst rate where the number of consecutive shots in a burst is only limited by the capacity of the flash memory card in the camera.
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS SLR Lens: Canon's latest optical Image Stabilizer (IS) technology provides up to 4-stop compensation for image blur caused by camera shake and slow shutter speeds. Photographers normally shooting handheld at 1/250 sec can switch on IS to obtain a similarly steady and blur-free result with a shutter speed of just 1/15 second. The inclusion of automatic panning detection makes it easier for photographers to track wildlife and other moving subjects.
Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom Lens: It is designed with Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer technology and is compact and light. This high zoom ratio lens is equivalent to a focal length of 88-400mm in the 35mm format. The image stabilizer effect is equivalent to a shutter speed about 4 stops faster than the same size lens without Image Stabilizer. In other words, if the slowest shutter speed you could formerly hold a 250mm lens steadily was 1/250th of a second, with Canon's 4-stop stabilization correction, you could hand-hold at shutter speeds as slow as 1/15th of a second. It also uses a UD-glass lens element to correct chromatic aberration for excellent image quality throughout the zoom range.

I was a little bit leery of buying one of these big bundles of things from Amazon because I thought it was someone trying to dump their second rate products (e.g., an off-brand extra battery that doesn't hold a charge, a non-HD memory card, etc.) But this was the perfect starter set for my first DSLR camera purchase. It came with just about everything you need, and the items weren't just crappy leftovers. The battery that comes with the camera has been going strong for weeks of use, and even the spare (off-brand) battery (which I may never need at this rate) is still holding its original charge. The card reader is really handy and works great. The camera itself is nice as a first DSLR.

However, I do recommend you purchase a decent UV filter from Canon, mainly to protect the lens. It's much better to replace a 16 dollar scratched filter than get a whole new lens, and the kit doesn't come with one.

I've yet to see a better price for all the stuff I got with this camera! I really love it. You usually don't get a lens, much less 2 lenses with Image stabilzing quality. It really takes some awesome pictures. Even my friend who has the step up from this camera has told me how good my pictures come out!
