If you plan on buying a battery alone, GET THIS INSTEAD!!!,

The battery alone is approx 40-45 online, including amazon (which has free shipping/no tax -- which helps people in states like california).
The case alone is 20 on amazon. This set is 50 bux without tax or shipping ... a great deal if you were planning to buy both. If you weren't ... the case is a bonus! The battery is pretty straight forward. Anyone who has a SD200 or SD300 camera knows what the battery does and what the battery life is. Less is known about the case and the strap. The neck strap is pretty gaudy in my opinion. It isnt something I would use, but some might find it handy. I also think having a camera around your neck may cause your camera to get damaged (zippers, necklaces etc.. may scratch up the camera, swinging it around your neck may cause it to hit some hard and unforgiving surface) The leather case is a gem. It has some short comings but it's pretty close to perfection for my needs. This case fits the SD200 very well. When the sd200 is in the case, it becomes as thick as an s410 camera (by itself, without a case on). It is pretty stiff so it should protect it from scratches and even mild pressure applied to it. It has a magnetic buckle that snaps into place and snaps off easily. The material feels very good in the hand, and looks very classy. The top flap has a small hole where the wrist strap prong slips through. The back features a belt loop (not a clasp) for you to slide a belt through, or feed it through a strap (ie a messenger bag) although the latter would be a bad idea as the magnetic clasp on the flap isnt very strong, it could unbuckle pretty easily (as it is meant to do). the front of the camera is meant to face the front of the case (and the back faces the belt loop). that gives the lcd screen extra protection. it is the only way the sd200 fits in this case (as the strap pront faces the front). Along the sides, there seems to be a semi rigid insert .. top and bottom. probly plastic or cardboard, under the leather material. this helps prevent the buttons from being depressed, accidentally turning the camera on while in the case. Fantastic case, looks great, feels great, small. Downside ... no pocket for a spare battery. There is a tiny slit of a pocket in the case .. but it seems to be made for a spare SD card.

I got this for $49.99 (right before the price went up). At the time, it was like paying for a battery, which I needed, and then getting the case and strap for $5.00. What the heck, I gave it a try.
At the current price, I wouldn't recommend this. The case is a tight fit, and has a rough fabric lining. I'm already having problems with brassing on the metal and scratching of the LCD screen (I did later cover the screen with a stick-on Palm Pilot protector. That helped.) I put the camera in the case once, and decided that it would only contribute to wear as I put it in and pull it out. I'm much happier with a generic $10 case I found in a photo store. The strap, well, I doubt I'd use that, since the camera is too fragile to hang from your neck. I love my digital elph SD300, but the lense flaps are pretty flimsy and won't protect the glass if you bump into something.

I rate this item a 3 only because i've had the case and extra battery for well over a year. Probably longer than that. Is this a good buy? Well, maybe. It really does depend on what you want out of this set. For me, I just wanted the battery and the case. Strap I knew I wasn't going to use. My synopsis of the whole thing is below.
Neck Strap... If your moving around this thing is WAY to long or way to short. It's too short to strap across you chest. It's way to long because if it hangs in front of you, your precious camera you just paid a couple to a few hundred for is now freely bouncing around. NOT good. Final Decision (Neck Strap): use it for a jump drive that you use often or anything else. Just not your camera Battery... Uhhh, not much to say here. Spare battery that I use as a hot spare in case I really need it. 2 batteries seems to last most if not all day long even under HEAVY usage. This is true even today LONG after I originally got it. Final decision (Battery): WONDERFUL Case... I saved this for last. I'm now writing this review because of this case. I used it EVERYWHERE. I put it on my belt and I used it every day. Carried it around to work, on weekends, trips, etc. This thing is extremely handy and I loved it up until a month ago. I can honestly say, on average, i've pulled my camera out of this case and put it back in at least twice a day over the past year. A few months ago I started to notice a mark on my screen. I had NO idea what the heck was causing it. Despite my HEAVY usage of the case and camera, I knew it wasn't the metal clasp and I knew it wasnt' the edges of the case. One month or less ago I finally figured it out. There's stitching INSIDE the case on one of the sides. This WILL damage your camera LCD as it goes right across it. The stiching is to hold the bottom of the belt strap. IDIOTS ruined my camera (SD300)!! This case is STILL usable but you will have to be careful as to what direction you put the camera into it. So long as you form a habit of putting the camera in where the LCD display is facing forward, you will have no troubles. P.S. The magnetic clasp does NOT effect your flash memory (SD card) Final Decision (Case): This fits my camera perfectly and is very durable. I would definately say that this case should have been built a bit better but I still am happy with it. COMPLETE DECISION: I would definately buy this package again and I will buy Kit 2 for my mom's SD550 this christmas. BUT at least I now know to be VERY careful of the inside stiching on the cases I buy from now on. To the ninkapoop that was scratching his LCD on his camera up on the other surfaces, respect your stuff, it'll last longer. I really don't think any case would have worked for him. This one is fine with the exception of that stupid stiching. Sorry for ranting about it but I hope this helps some people.

I bought this kit for the battery. The cost of the battery alone and with the kit was a marginal differance. The battery obviously preforms flawlessly. I would have been more satisfied with a soft shell case than the hard skin leather. Its not as pocket friendly and I find myself just sticking the camera in my pocket leaving the case behind. The neck strap is also intrusive too thick and not flexable enough. I say for the diffence in cost of the battery its a good deal. If you can get the battery for a decent price skip this combo.

The kit comes with three pieces: a neck strap, "leather" case, and the battery.
The case seems to be a fairly sturdy cardboard box covered with some leather-resembling material. The camera is a snug fit, although there is room for a second SD card if you need to carry one with you. The case fits nicely onto the belt and perfectly meets my needs. I bought the SD Digital Elph due to its form factor so that I'll be able to carry it with me all the time. Having it on my belt, with less than 5 seconds from opening the case to taking the picture, this definitely meets my needs. I would not like to carry it around in my shirt pocket or pants pocket. The magnetic snap closes and opens easily. While I do have scratches on my LCD, I doubt that they come from the case. The case flap also has a cutout to accomodate the wrist-strap loop - a "feature" that you might not get with generic cases. The battery obviously is the convincing "argument" for buying this kit, although I have to say that even on a recent 1 week trip to DC and VA, I did not need my 2nd battery. It seems that the battery life is pretty good to begin with. And the charge time is just a few hours, so with a little planning ahead I could probably do without the 2nd battery. The neck strap is pretty useless, as others have pointed out. So would I buy this kit again? I guess so; another way to do the math is to say I got the 2nd battery for $30 (if I had paid $20 for the case alone). My recommendation is to try out the battery life for yourself for a few months before buying a backup battery. As for the case you need to decide whether you want the camera in your pocket or on your belt. Good luck!

This case has one major flaw: If you wear it on you belt, it is nearly impossible to put the camera back in without it touching the inside of the open case flap. This gentle touch will eventually put horrible scracthes on the matted camera screen, unless you remember to flip the camera in which case the scracthes appear on the camera body. DO NOT BUY THIS CASE. Get a soft one instead.

I thought I was getting a good deal with buying all these items together. I was expecting the case that I got for my SD110 which was quite nice. The case is cheap cheap cheap - Made in China crap. The leather is one step above plastic. The snap to close it scratches the camera. It is basically terrible. The neck strap is a cheapie throw in as well. Just get the battery individually and get another case. This is not worth it. I am so disappointed. It spoilt the enjoyment of getting my new SD300.

I have the SD400 and am extremely pleased with it. It's compact and full of features. When I went looking for a case to protect it, most of the options I found were generic and just didn't seem right. A friend (who also owns the SD400) had purchased the accessory kit and showed me the case. It was just what I was looking for. It fits the camera perfectly and looks great. It is a nice quality leather that matches the camera's small, sleek form factor. The magnetic "snap like" clasp is a nice touch and makes it easy to get the camera out quickly. The extra battery is a must for anyone who wants to snap a lot of pictures without worry of battery life. I was going to buy a spare battery anyway so this kit covered my needs and saved me money. The kit also comes with a metallic like neck cord. It looks cool, but I prefer to shorter one (wrist cord) that came with the camera.

My only criticism is the hole at the top of the hard case for the strap. If you pull the wriststrap through it you can't pull the camera out of the holster easily. The holster is on a belt loop, so the hole on the top makes no sense. It would be nice if the wrist strap or necklace could fit inside the case...the flip side of course is that the case fits like a glove and protects the camera. I just let the strap hang out the side and that seems like a simple solution.
The price for the battery, case, and strap is great as a combo deal...I couldn't match the price anywhere. |
