About the Author

With more than a million books in print, David D. Busch is the world's #1 selling digital camera guide author, and the originator of popular digital photography series like David Busch's Pro Secrets and David Busch's Quick Snap Guides. He has written more than a dozen hugely successful guidebooks for Sony and Sony Digital models, as well as many popular books devoted to dSLRs, including Mastering Digital Photography, Second Edition, and Digital Pro Secrets. As a roving photojournalist for more than twenty years, he illustrated his books, magazine articles, and newspaper reports with award-winning images. He's operated his own commercial studio, suffocated in formal dress while shooting weddings-for-hire, and shot sports for a daily newspaper and upstate New York college. His photos and articles have appeared in Popular Photography & Imaging, The Rangefinder, The Professional Photographer, and hundreds of other publications. He's also reviewed dozens of digital cameras for CNet and Computer Shopper, and his advice has been featured in National Public Radio's All Tech Considered. When About.com named its top five books on Beginning Digital Photography, debuting at the #1 and #2 slots were Busch's Digital Photography All-In-One Desk Reference for Dummies and Mastering Digital Photography. During the past year, he's had as many as five of his books listed in the Top 20 of Amazon.com's Digital Photography Bestseller list--simultaneously! Busch's 120-plus other books published since 1983 include bestsellers like David Busch's Quick Snap Guide to Digital Lenses. Visit his website at http://www.dslrguides.com.

More About the Author

With nearly 1.5 million books in print, David D. Busch is the world's #1 selling author of camera-specific guidebooks, and the originator of popular series like David Busch's Pro Secrets, David Busch's Compact Field Guides, David Busch's Guides to Digital SLR Photography, and David Busch's Quick Snap Guides.

Most of his hugely successful books for Nikon, Canon, Sony, Pentax, Olympus, and Panasonic digital cameras are the top-selling guidebooks for their respective camera models. His advice has been featured on NPR's "All Tech Considered."

Busch's dozens of other books devoted to digital photography include David Busch's Digital Infrared Pro Secrets and Mastering Digital SLR Photography. As a roving photojournalist for more than 20 years, he has illustrated his books, magazine articles, and newspaper reports with award-winning images. Busch has operated his own commercial studio, suffocated in formal dress while shooting weddings-for-hire, and shot sports for a daily newspaper and upstate New York college. His photographs and articles have been published in magazines as diverse as PhotoGraphic, Popular Photography & Imaging, The Rangefinder, The Professional Photographer, and hundreds of other publications. He's also reviewed digital cameras for CNet Networks and Computer Shopper.

As a writer, photographer, and contributing editor for ten magazines, he has more than 130 books and 2500 articles to his credit. A PR consultant for Eastman Kodak Company's photography divisions for nearly 20 years, Busch has published photography articles under his by-line in Popular Photography & Imaging, PhotoGraphic, The Rangefinder, The Professional Photographer and other photo magazines. His photos have appeared on the covers of magazines, and in both print and television advertising.

The graduate of Kent State University operated his own photo studio and was a principal in CCS/PR, Inc., one of the largest public relations firms based in San Diego, working on press conferences, press kits, media tours, and sponsored photo trade magazine articles. In addition to Kodak, CCS photography clients included Hewlett-Packard. He sold his interest in CCS in 1992 to become a full-time author, photographer, and reporter.

Since then, Busch has become one of the leading photojournalist/authors in the United States. He has had as many as five books appear simultaneously in the Amazon.com Top 25 Digital Photography Books, and when Michael Carr of About.com named the top five digital photography books for beginners, the #1 and #2 choices were his Digital Photography All-in-One Desk Reference for Dummies and Mastering Digital Photography. Several of his digital imaging books have sold in excess of 50,000 copies.

Busch was a featured guest speaking on digital photography on Toronto's Breakfast Television show in 2005, was the keynote speaker at the Dayton Computerfest, and has been a call-in guest for 22 different radio shows nationally and in major markets, including WTOP-AM (Washington), KYW-AM (Philadelphia), USA Network (Daybreak USA), WPHM-AM (Detroit), KMJE-FM (Sacramento), CJAD-AM (Montreal), WBIX-AM (Boston), ABC Radio Network (Jonathan & Mary Show).

If you want very good explanations of all the information in Canon's XTi user manual, the Lowrie book may be for you.

I purchased both Busch's guide and Lowrie's guide to acquaint myself with the XTi.

I appreciated Lowrie's thorough explanations of the "bare facts" presented in the XTi's users manual. Unfortunately, I found Lowrie's guide to have a few errors (e.g.; the diagram of the "9-point AF" actually showed only 7-points). Obviously this was missed when Lowe's material was updated for the XTi.

Busch's information I found to be very accurate. Moreover, Busch goes into a fair amount of photography theory and shows how the XTi can be used to address some of the basic issues of technique. Describing the XTi's use in this context I found to be very engaging and informative.

If you want very good explanations of all the information in Canon's XTi user manual, the Lowrie book may be for you. But if you want to know all the Lowrie information AND and how it relates to the greater context of photographic theory, go for Busch's book.

This book by BUSCH is better than the one by LOWRIE because it contains pictures of the actual camera and controls, which serve to make it easier to use. It is logical and almost step by step in it's instruction. It covers much of what the camera can do, even the custom functions in detail.

It is very straightforward and extremely helpful for anyone who has this complex camera, which can do a lot.

I recommend it to the novice or amateur photographer.

I am enjoying this book and glad I purchased it. One it's much easier on the old tired eyes to read than the small little thing that came with the camera, and colored pictures and all. Glad I made the purchase and this one seems to be the best one for the money from my checking out the others.

Unless one has tons of experience in photography, this book is a MUST HAVE. We converted from a point-and-shoot to the Rebel XTi just over 4 months ago and have been crippled by not having a source of reference. In my opinion, Canon should consider having this book as their user manual instead of the pocket-sized next to nothing that comes with the camera upon purchase.

If you are a newcomer to the (digital) photography world and want to have some useful advice on how to master light, shade with your EOS-400 this is the book for you. Even though it doesn't replace the reading of the users' manual, this book explains thoroughly how to use this great camera to make great pictures. The book is fully illustrated, has "screen shots" of the actual menus and is a joy to read. Highly recommended material.

Forget the Owner's Manual. This well written, well organized guide will tell you everything you need to know and master to utilize the Canon XTI to it fullest. Clearly written and illustrated; the book explores and explains features that you didn't know the camera had.

This is a very well written book and a very friendly to use format. I love picking it up to studying more about the XTi/400D camera. It's a great source of in depth knowledge to learn the capabilities of the camera. Much more user friendly than the original owner's manual. Nice diagrams and pictures to add some interest. Highly recommended!
