Product Description

The EF-S 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 looks destined to carry the flag as the kit lens sold with virtually every Canon D SLR over the next few years (and that counts as an awful lot of lenses), so it really needs to perform well in the face of some impressive competition. Fortunately for them, Canon have indeed upped the ante with this new lens; it's much better than its predecessor, especially in terms of sharpness in the corners and at wider apertures, and with reduced chromatic aberrations to boot. Indeed overall it's an extremely well-behaved little lens, with very few nasty surprises for the user, and a remarkably good image stabilization unit; indeed Canon's main concern may ultimately become whether users have as much incentive to upgrade to more expensive optics as they did before. The Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 EF-S IS Lens is a standard zoom lens that features the smaller size image circle, exclusively designed for EOS Digital Rebel and other cameras using the "APS-C" size sensor. The focal length is equivalent to approx. 28-90mm in 35mm format. This makes it ideal as a basic everyday lens. This lens features Canon's optical Image Stabilizer technology, which provides up to 3-4 stop compensation for image blur caused by camera shake and slow shutter speeds. This ensures clear, crisp images, even in dim light. Designed specifically for digital photography, the lens has specially shaped lens elements and Super Spectra coatings to suppress ghosting and flare, which can be caused by reflections off digital camera sensors. An exclusive optional lens hood can further reduce the incidence of flare. Note! Only fits on the EOS 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D & 60D or Digital Rebel XT XTi XS XSi T1i T2i T3 T3i SLR cameras

The lens is easy and takes great pics!

Picture is sharp, although not super sharp, and it performs poorly in sub-par lighting conditions.

I recently purchased a 60D, and I've been using this as my primary lens. I've gone on a number of shoots, day and night, and the images are stellar.

I have been waiting a while to purchase this lens to upgrade my CAnon Rebel. The lens is easy and takes great pics! I am sorry I waited so long to purchase it! I would tell someone in the future not to wait, the only thing that can happen is some great photo ops are passing by.

My old Canon EF-S 18-55mm lens would not focus in the center. Even though this is a the same lens (and looks just like the picture) it is a bit shorter and lighter than the old one. Even the lens cap is an upgrade. This lens solved my focus problem.

I broke the lens that came with the camera so I had to buy a replacement. I use this lens for photographing people as well as landscapes. There are better lenses for both applications, but this one is a nice compromise between the two. It doesn't do very well with photographing smaller things like flowers, bugs or birds, but that is not what this lens was intended for.

This will be a short review from someone who is not an experienced photographer, so please keep this in mind.

This is my second purchase of this lens. I had to buy a new one because my husband dropped my camera and this lens stopped working. Yeah, so obvious warning here, don't drop your bloody lens because your lens will malfunction. I'm not actually deducting points from this lens because of that, just making this known to people who are a bit clumsy :)

Anyways, I like how this lens works with my T3i. I primarily use it this record video for Youtube. Picture is sharp, although not super sharp, and it performs poorly in sub-par lighting conditions. It takes a little while to autofocus, but it isn't loud...at least compared to my other lens, which sounds like an orc in heat...jeezus.

This is the lens you want if you're a noob and just want to take pretty pictures with autofocus on. There's little hassle. Easy to use. Pictures are very decent, but don't expect mindblowing quality. I love this lens for videomaking.

Great little lens, great for wide angle shots. You can great movies with this lens on your camera and the cost will not break the bank.

This is an awesome lens! My only complaint is that the Tulip Lens Hood does not properly fit on the lens....other than that, it is a great deal.
