3.0 out of 5 stars Good but could be better, September 16, 2004
This review is from: Canon EH16L Semi-Hard Case for the Digital Rebel Camera (Electronics)
Good case but could be better, especially for the price. Materials used could be better. The description states "Designed to conveniently expose the camera controls and LCD panel". Not completely true. You have to come close to removing the camera completely from the case to get access to the LCD display and controls.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent protection when closed, December 3, 2004

This review is from: Canon EH16L Semi-Hard Case for the Digital Rebel Camera (Electronics)
I buy semihard, fitted cases for cameras if they are available, mainly so that I can throw a camera in my backpack without worrying about it too much. My other cameras are a Powershot G1 and an old Mintolta X-700, and the fitted cases for both of those cameras provide a decent amount of protection to the bottom and sides of the camera.I leave the bottoms on even when I carry them in a padded case, so that when I'm shooting, and I need to set the camera on concrete or on the ground, they won't scuff.

The EH16L is great when buttoned up, as good as my other semihards, but the fitted bottom only protects the the very bottom and the left side of the camerea. I understand the right side being exposed because of the rubber grip, but I would have liked to see the bottom lip (which protects the back corner of the right side) extended all the way around the back, which wouldn't have obstructed the controls. A detachable thin vinyl/leatherette backing with cutouts for the buttons and an insert for an LCD protector would have been ideal.

A big plus is the generous size of the the lens cover. It will close over my 28-300 Tamron lens, with a petal hood flipped backwards. My X-700 will only accomodate the 50mm prime that was in the kit.

I recommend the case if you want to protect the camera while lugging it around in a regular bag, but it offers minimal protection while you're shooting.

3.0 out of 5 stars great camera, not-so-great case, January 5, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Canon EH16L Semi-Hard Case for the Digital Rebel Camera (Electronics)
This case does fit the camera fairly well and provides decent protection. The attached base does not inhibit shooting in any way. however, the base must be completely removed in order to have access to the data port, video out port, remote control port, flash card, or battery (which must be removed to be charged). I have had the case for a few weeks and find that i have it off more than on. It also seems to be too expensive for the quality you get. If I were to start all over again, I think I would buy a nice, generic camera bag that could also hold memory cards, the battery charger, and other accessories.
