Good but could be better,

Good case but could be better, especially for the price. Materials used could be better. The description states "Designed to conveniently expose the camera controls and LCD panel". Not completely true. You have to come close to removing the camera completely from the case to get access to the LCD display and controls.

I buy semihard, fitted cases for cameras if they are available, mainly so that I can throw a camera in my backpack without worrying about it too much. My other cameras are a Powershot G1 and an old Mintolta X-700, and the fitted cases for both of those cameras provide a decent amount of protection to the bottom and sides of the camera.I leave the bottoms on even when I carry them in a padded case, so that when I'm shooting, and I need to set the camera on concrete or on the ground, they won't scuff.
The EH16L is great when buttoned up, as good as my other semihards, but the fitted bottom only protects the the very bottom and the left side of the camerea. I understand the right side being exposed because of the rubber grip, but I would have liked to see the bottom lip (which protects the back corner of the right side) extended all the way around the back, which wouldn't have obstructed the controls. A detachable thin vinyl/leatherette backing with cutouts for the buttons and an insert for an LCD protector would have been ideal. A big plus is the generous size of the the lens cover. It will close over my 28-300 Tamron lens, with a petal hood flipped backwards. My X-700 will only accomodate the 50mm prime that was in the kit. I recommend the case if you want to protect the camera while lugging it around in a regular bag, but it offers minimal protection while you're shooting.

This case does fit the camera fairly well and provides decent protection. The attached base does not inhibit shooting in any way. however, the base must be completely removed in order to have access to the data port, video out port, remote control port, flash card, or battery (which must be removed to be charged). I have had the case for a few weeks and find that i have it off more than on. It also seems to be too expensive for the quality you get. If I were to start all over again, I think I would buy a nice, generic camera bag that could also hold memory cards, the battery charger, and other accessories.

I just received my case today and had to write a review because some of the previous reviews almost talked me out of ordering it. With that said -- I have to clarify that I do not use my digital Rebel professionally, so this case was perfect for my level of use. I find that I usually end up leaving my camera at home because I don't want to drag my ENTIRE camera bag (with all of the expensive accessories and memory cards in it) everywhere I go, so it is perfect for protecting your camera on its own or if you put it inside of another bag (like a previous review suggested).
The case covers the entire back panel and protects the LED screen (which is what I was especially concerned about). Since a piece of the case does screw on to the bottom of the camera, it does block the memory card and battery doors, but I was able to screw it on tightly enough with my fingers (vs. using a coin), so it is easy and quick to take that piece off. Plus, I use gig cards so (again since it's a hobby camera) I don't need to change the card too often. I also have two batteries that I rotate, so running out of charge and having to change batteries a lot has never been an issue for me. I even have an eyepiece extender (EP-EX15) on the camera and the case still fits perfectly (with the regular 18-55mm lens). I guess my thoughts on the bottom piece overall, is that I'd rather my camera be OVER-protected than under-protected by leaving too many areas open for easier access. As for it looking cheap for the price -- it met my expectations exactly. It is well padded and seems pretty sturdy! If you are using the Rebel for fun, like me, I think this case is just what you need! In fact, I think I will be taking my Rebel along with me a lot more now because of it!

A little pricey for the quality,

This case is compact and designed specifically for the Canon 300D Digital Rebel. It was easy to attach and fit, however there is no room for anything but the camera and the attached lens. You will need another bag to hold any other accessories like lenses, memory cards, cleaning kits, etc. It's perfect for the "throw over the shoulder and go" type of situation. The look and feel is not what I expected, and has a "cheap" look to it. In my opinion, this item is overpriced for what you get.

Pros:
Custom made for rebel with kit lens or 50mm lens. Cons: Looks not as good as it cost. Could be cheaper.

Very Useful Camera - Amost Useless Case,
By Michael Horn "mikie" (US Army Combat Support Training Center, Dublin, CA) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Canon EH16L Semi-Hard Case for the Digital Rebel Camera (Electronics)
This is the biggest purchase mistake I have made in selecting support equipment for my Canon dRebel (300D). I have never used the case since purchase and think I never will.
I bought the case because all my 35mmSLRs have always had a case. My problems started when I found the case blocks almost all access ports: CF memory, battery and printer. It will not work with any of my telephoto lenses on the camera. The final blow came when I purchased a BGE-1 Battery Grip - that BGE-1 has never left the camera since. The battery grip size and bulk precludes any chance of using the EH16L Case - and the utility of the BGE-1 (see my review) for portrait and professional work takes priority over any protection offered by the case. Using a hip bag, backpack bag for casual shoots or vacation and a monster bag for professional shoots gives enough storage protection for my plastic bodied dRebel. Casual use of the dRebel for the recreational photographer - would probably be the best use for this case. In my experience - only a few owners of the Rebel use the case - even if they have not accessorized the camera. The case becomes useless when adding on an eyepiece extender (EP-EX15 - see my review), telephoto lens, filter sets, lens cleaners - all this and you're better off with a hip bag or backpack bag. Padded bags offer more flexability and versatility than does the hardcase. The cost and quality are secondary to the usefulness of the product - which seems to get in the way as we all move further into the world of digital photography. Even my point and shoot cases (for Canon Powershot A75 and A85 cameras) have room for an an extra battery set, CF memory cards and lens cleaning rags. Serious photographers will find this type of case useless as the accessory list to your camera grows!

This is a leather case for the Digital Rebel EOS camera by Canon. It's made specifically for that camera.
I never used the case because I realized it was difficult to put on, take off, and there were NO storage pockets for an extra battery or CF card. There is no point in making a case for a camera without a storage flap or envelope! I went to a camera store and bought a very nice soft case that could hold my camera with a 28-200mm lens, plus it came with 3 storage compartments. And that case cost less than this one! Even if you are a beginner with a camera, you must have an extra battery with you when shooting with the flash. Any case that doesn't have room for a battery (or even a CF card, those are so small!) was designed by someone who gave no thought about how to use a digital camera.

over priced junk and impedes camera usage,

its a pain to use this. slipping the camera into this case is not an easy task. You have to completely remove the case and the screwed on base every time you want to access the memory card or the battery. If you want to shoot some pictures you need to remove the case [you can keep the screwed on case at this time] Also, there is no room for accessories or a larger lens other than the stock lens canon gives you with the camera body/lens combination package.

Lost the bottom part of the case,

If anyone doesn't want their case, I would love it. I lost the bottom part that screws into the camera. I used the case all the time. Thanks in advance!
